Interesting, a Wagner (not the composer) Group commander leaves.
Andrey Medvedev says he fled Wagner after witnessing war crimes while serving in Ukraine.

The US is thinking to transfer between 30 to 50 M1 tanks to Ukraine; these will probably be A1 or A2 versions.
Several countries (including Poland, Spain, and the Netherlands) are willing to transfer a total of around 100 Leopard 2A4 tanks, and Germany might be finally caving in to pressure to allow the re-export. According to other reports, Germany might even transfer at least a company (14 tanks) of new Leopard 2A6s.

About air power, Ukraine has allocated funds for training (in the US) and procurement of new fighters. Rumors point to 24 surplus F-16s, so probably A and B variants previously used by the ANG. No actual training is going on yet.

Doomsday Clock at record 90 seconds to midnight amid Ukraine crisis
Scientists warn of ‘unprecedented danger’ and say ‘Russia’s war … has raised profound questions’

"A panel of international scientists has warned that humanity’s continued existence is at greater risk than ever before, largely as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists set its Doomsday Clock at 90 seconds to midnight, the closest to midnight the clock has been since it was established in 1947 to illustrate global existential threats at the dawn of the nuclear weapons age."

Oh great. What year is this, again?

I felt we were moving forward as a species about 10 years ago, then Brexit, Trump, Johnson and the invasion of Ukraine makes it feel like we're worse than ever. '

If it makes you feel any better, the big bully Russia has had its teeth kicked out the back of its head by Ukraine, 100k troops and counting, so there is an upside, Ukraine is winning!

Once they get modern tanks like the Challenger2 and Leopard2 that will be it for Russia on the battlefield, Russia have nothing whatsoever to counter those vehicles.

31 M1 Abrams and "two battalions" of German Leopard 2s (that should be around 44 tanks) are officially headed to Ukraine now. It'll be interesting to see the condition of the Abrams as even A1 and A2 variant include armour that's still classified by the US.

Of course Russia didn't take the news well, with Vladimir Solovyov calling the current German chancellor "a corrupt Nazi bastard", the minister of foreign affairs a "forgetful American ***re", and that Germany forgot their "historical guilt"

[edit] the swear filter didn't pick up ***re, so I censored it myself.

Corrupt Nazi that’s currently invading another country calls someone else a corrupt nazi for helping to fight the nazis. I’m sure the irony is completely lost on the loon.

At this point its like a comedy show the stuff coming out of Russia, its like they think its the 50’s and everyone will just believe them because they say so.

It'll be a repeat of the tactics seen in the Kosovo war, where a single tank and a .50 cal placement was enough to hold back entire forces.

Hopefully by the time this war ends Ukraine will have managed to knock Russia back so hard that they end up with more territory than they had when Russia invaded. Politicians and military folk on the radio discussing it refer to it as being a situation of Russia having to be hit over a long period and hard enough that it forces them to abandon the fight as a result of peace negotiations and they walk away with whatever gains they can agree but that is the outcome that 100% needs not to happen. Putin mustn't be allowed a single inch of gains in this, it's not just about Ukraine not being forced into a position where it has to let itself be chipped away at over repeated conflicts but also about how important it is at this point that the message is sent clearly that Russia's days of being considered a military threat are completely over and that any other country fancying itself an aggressor will also fail in their attempt.

Netherlands wants to donate F-16's, have to get permission from Biden though.

You have to laugh at the checking though of news agencies, I watched the story on France24 which I do rather like, but the headline was all about the F-16's but they showed footage of F-18's doing carrier landings and inside a military transport plane as well.

The Dutch government walked back on that; they didn't rule out it altogether but it's far from simply obtaining a re-export licence.

Nearly, or up to, 200k casualties for Russia so far, just mind boggling, they are absolutely going to run out of troops.

Didn't you know that all men aged 17 - 45 in Russia can also be troops??

That article doesn't say that though.

"Ukraine and Russian forces have suffered around 200,000 military casualties between them so far according to western officials, who also believe the “grinding conflict” will continue throughout 2023.
Of the 100,000 casualties on both sides that have been killed or wounded, Russian forces are understood to have suffered more fatalities."

And civilians. Shocking loss of life.

Ah the original headline said 200k Russian casualties, not between them.
