And that's exactly why it's not reliable.

Twitter is just a mechanism for delivering information. Yes, instead of relying on an editorial gatekeeper to do fact checking or to consider the validity of a source, you have to do it yourself as best you can. But that's no reason to dismiss it entirely.

Yeah. And, if we're repeating ourselves, that's no reason to dismiss it entirely.

Yep; that sums it up much better than I

Like as an example, today on Twitter, I've seen an explosion of people criticising support of Ukraine because the west doesn't provide the same support to Palestine. Now I'm not going to get into that discussion, because that's a whole thing and I know I'm ill-equipped to discuss the geopolitics of those two situations.

The point is that this is trending now.

There are certainly people who believe this is hypocritical of the west.

But if you're someone at a Russian disinformation department trying to create unrest in EU/US social media, this is also the perfect boot to stick in. People are rightfully hesitant to get involved in the Israeli/Palestinian discussion online, myself included, because we know we don't know enough to truly have any well-formed opinions. If you wanted to silence/deflect discussion, yelling at people "STOP CRITICISING RUSSIA UNLESS YOU ALSO CRITICISE ISRAEL" is a great way to do it.

Hell, even now, posting this, I'm choosing my words carefully as I'd hate to suggest all those people are paid Russian actors, as that's not true. But are some of them? Maybe? You've got no way to know.

Yeah, that happens every conflict and every time people start to care about something. It's not helpful.

Asura, I think that's a bit rich from someone who paid for a load of bots to make himself look popular.

(Joke! )

I can imagine the Conservatives are overjoyed that there's been no mention of parties or social distancing abandonment and so on for a good week now.

Yeah, the person most excited about the Russian invasion outside of the Kremlin is definitely Johnson. He must be overjoyed.

Oh totally. I suspect he went to bed praying for this every night of that scandal; fortunately for us it's not over and we'll go right back to it once the immediate situation in Ukraine changes.

This will all absolutely see Johnson let off the hook for every single illegal activity he's done. That part of it is depressing as hell.

I don't know enough about the Israel thing either but very broadly isn't that the two situations aren't the same? The EU etc aren't really getting involved with Ukraine because they value Ukraine or its people to some unfair standard, it's pretty much all about Russia, it's power and history with the EU as to why action is being taken.

Oooof, that's going to go down well with Putin.

Plus he'll probably get chance to do his Mr. Ben thing again and play dress-up.
I reckon it'll be a big, tough soldier, or maybe a humanitarian aid worker with a big red cross.
