I've registered for plenty of forums over the years but almost all of the ones that I've been really been a part of and actively posted at on a regular basis have shuffled themselves off the internet before I've ever felt inclined to walk away.
It is definitely a bummer that some good folks have moved on from here but I also completely get it. I can't even recall any particularly self-important "I am bigger than the forum" type tantrums, which is a good sign. I'm generally pretty bad at keeping in regular contact with anyone, but I do like knowing that there are folks from here that I can and do talk to away from here, and there's certainly still plenty more faces I like seeing on the regular around here that I'd be gutted to lose contact with.

"This is not an airport, you don't have to state your departure."
With the ignore function, I don't see why people can't just blank the people that wind them up.
Never really get why some people need to be so dramatic.
It's just a free website run by people who don't get paid to chat with other people about similar hobbies and interests, stemming from a love of import gaming.
I genuinely think if some of the flouncers took a minute to think what they would sound like saying the things online in a real world environment, they'd think twice about posting.

I once caused a massive furore on a forum by kind of doing the opposite.
I was on a place for about a decade, it changed ownership and the new owner allowed all kinds of horrible stuff. It went from being a quite friendly and small place to absolutely full of trolls, weirdos with no social skills and people just asking stupid questions. The equivalent here would be if we suddenly had 500 people off NeoGAF turning up and posting whatever they like. There were a lot of arguments, a lot of people stopped posting or left. I didn't want to cause a fuss but equally there was a lot of stuff linking me there and I no longer wanted to be associated with the place. It would have literally been the first few results if you searched my name. I sent the owner a PM and asked him to delete my posts (easy job, would have taken a minute). He completely ignored me, so I just went through and deleted my posts manually, logged out and called it a day.
About a week later, he suddenly noticed and went absolutely nuts! Accused me of hacking the forum, said members couldn't delete their own posts (they could, there was a button), said I'd wrecked the database, tried to put out a load of fake stuff about why I'd left knowing I couldn't reply. I had to literally Email anyone interested with the details. In any case, within about a year it was proven that he was actively pocketing all donations to the forum server fund for himself and he left under a dark cloud. A weird chapter of my adult life, never went back there though.

A load of people went off to Green Hill Zone. Is that still going?
In terms of gaming forums, it's here and rllmuk for me, but I mostly live in the retro thread over there.
I'm a member of a couple of home computer forums, but no, never left one or left one in a huff. Seems so dramatic to me.
