Tory councillors in Bedfordshire rejected extra funding for school meals so they could give themselves a pay rise, f*****g disgusting pigs every one of them.

Point is, it was a huge protest. I would hazard a guess they gave more coverage to people protesting conscription in Russia.

I'm never really sure where the BBC lands when it comes to reporting. I know it's very Tory-led so impartiality is always a bit of a myth but technically under that guise it's supposed to report the news and yet when the news is relentlessly (rightfully) one sided then I imagine they have a tussel on whether to report negatively on Labour for balance, hold back on the Tories for fairness etc. I suppose when your future is decided by the Government it raises the spectre of the BBC's role regardless.

I think part of their problem is that they have the veneer of impartiality, despite being a national broadcaster, and thus would inherently have a bias towards (1) the government of the day and (2) preserving the status quo.

I think they can be a bit up themselves sometimes, because the BBC's one major strength as a news organisation is that they're not driven by a profit imperative; i.e. they don't really have to care whether their editorial is popular or not. But that only makes them better if they actively use that to shine a light on unpopular topics.

Like plunging in the knife a second time to try and undo a stab wound

On every possible level they can't take back the damage as much as the tax cut deserves to be u-turned. If anything it compounds the damage as it shows the markets that their word holds no commitment and with such a severe level of uncertainty they've now established a terminal level of fear across the board that will last until they're out of office.

Good to see all the protests over the weekend, especially people shouting “tory scum out”. People are waking up finally.

Just looked up the new Chancellor on Wikipedia. He literally wrote a book about how welfare should be for people that pay for it. The opposite of what welfare is....

It's already started really, every hospital is riddled with private clinics and private companies charging the nhs on a per patient basis.

It’s only a matter of time until the mp’s figure a way to just sell it all off to US pharma so their mates all get a cut.

                          Can’t wait.
