At least 14,000 people denied vote due to lack of voter ID, watchdog finds

"The Electoral Commission said data collected at polling stations across 230 councils in England on 4 May found that 0.7% of voters were initially turned away for lacking the correct ID, with 63% of these returning, meaning around 14,000 people were confirmed as being denied a vote.

However, the report said, the actual figure was likely to be higher given that almost 40% of polling stations used “greeters”, tasked with telling voters before they went in that ID was needed."

Not specifically left-thinking, but most likely people with less money so unhappy with the current lot and likely to vote them out.
"If they're too poor to own a car, they won't have a driving licence and can't jolly well drive to the polls to vote us out, what what?"

Another one to consider is that older generations are much more resistant to change. So it could be that older generations would turn up with no ID, because they've never needed it before, been told they need to go and get one, and then just said sod it and never returned.

You'd think so - but the government allowed various bits of ID older people have that younger people don't. For instance, retiree buspasses were accepted as ID, but buspasses used by non-retirees weren't acceptable.

I think it was Mog that admitted it backfired as the people it mainly stopped where the elderly, despite them having the most options for voter ID,

I believe a lone Werther’s at the bottom of a pocket was an accepted form of ID so the older people were fine.

Urgh, nothing worse than a 20-30 minute nap, more likely to give me a headache than feel rested to have to wake up just as you are getting into deeper sleep

Pretty difficult to receive satellite signals two miles beneath the ocean surface too.

The dentist I work with daily HAS to have a nap at lunchtime, at least 15, + 20 if possible otherwise he is a cranky grump the rest of the day.
Some of the hygienists have a nap in their room too. I wish I could but I snore too much and am difficult to wake.

This "identify as a cat" thing is utterly bizarre.

What I'm reading is that the student edited a longer discussion with a teacher to just include her (carefully worded) question and the teacher then telling her she was being despicable - but with a bunch of footage of her escalating argument in-between cut out.

But yeah, as a society we need to be aware of this and try to protect kids from falling into the traps.

Just another thing for a lost generation with no purpose to get further lost into.

Also it needs to be ok for teachers to use male and female, if a student takes offence then just say so politely and this is what you want to be called from now on, everyone can then move on.

The heavy handed nature of the way governing bodies are sledgehammering down on teachers for even the slightest infraction is not, in any way ok. Or we can have an entire generation with no education as there will be no teachers left.
