Trump won the popular vote too. I think we now need to accept an ugly truth.
Americans are right-wing.
Americans are authoritarian.
Americans want to be ruled by a corrupt ruler who says what they want to hear.
Like it's not people's racist uncle or a minority of malcontents now. It's the majority of the voting public.
They went out that day and voted for Donald Trump. You know; the walking corpse, orange-skinned, reality TV star.
Apparently, also, the split showed that a majority of white women voted for Trump, but an even larger majority of white men voted for him. Which suggests to me something else; with Trump's opponent beuing a woman, I can't get over the idea that a big enough chunk of America believes something that allows me to say the following without much recourse: America considers women to be lesser than men.

On the one hand "protect unborn, ban abortions". On the other hand "We don't care about them once they are born though. Don't ban guns".
I think the abortions thing must be like UK's imgrunt boats distraction. We can't tackle the real issues, so let's get everyone wound up about this other thing.

I'm still prepping myself mentally for the notion that this thread is likely to return to updating at a much higher rate for the coming few years thanks to the stupidity of Trump era politics.

I guess the State cases could continue, in theory, if he doesn’t pardon himself.

Pretty much what I said yesterday. You can get angry and despondent at Trump voters, or you can recognise that social justice + right wing neolib economics is not a winning formula because it doesn't speak to the issues that are most important to the largest number of people.
The only way that America (and the UK) will have a durable platform for social liberalism is through genuinely leftist economic policy.
Will we ever get it? It will be a tough fight. We will need charismatic leaders and a popular movement to overcome the thin layer of oligarchs and corporations who wield all the influence.
I guess like Sanders says at the end of his tweet, stay tuned.

You can be sure that the majority of Americans don't give 2 hoots about DEI, gender issues, liberal race equalisation. They want a return to traditional values and voted in their numbers for it.
They've got an orange morally dubious tv man in charge, he may not produce the goods but he's been on message this election.
