Yep, the problem is that anytime a party has changed nominees at this point it has cemented their loss. It would be a historic first for a Biden replacement to win the race which will be what's fuelling the hesitance and why the move seemed daft.
Biden is President right now, a week or two ago people weren't making such a fuss so it's clear that the country is in better hands with him in any capacity rather than Trump.
The verbal gaffs aren't new and they occurred during an epically long speech that showed that he has mental capacity that is clearly fine.
However
The take aways by the media are now showing a terminal issue - Biden and the Democrats have now completely lost control of the narrative. No-one is listening to what they say, just waiting for the next gaff and that clearly isn't going to get fixed now. That Trump lies, can't recall his own wife's name, is almost the same age, is incorrect and makes similar gaffs constantly etc doesn't even register thanks to the inherent bias the media has.
That's before Trumps many other issues that should be the central message right now. The only good thing to cling to is that this noise has drowned Trump out of the news so he isn't getting attention in the meantime - a situation that makes clear that his campaign is genuinely worried about the idea of Trump not facing Biden in November.
Biden voters won't switch to Trump, fence sitters probably largely won't either. Instead apathy will lead to non-voters and with Trumpers being so galvanised he'll win via low turnout.
It will likely not work and the reasonings of the celebs and politicians who jumped on Biden so fast are fairly flimsy but with the coverage now having spiralled into chaos it's likely the only dice the Democrats have left to roll.Last edited by Neon Ignition; 12-07-2024, 22:08.

But if Harris would be moved to pole position for the election, I don't see any reason to limp along with Biden as the president until November. You'd need to get her front and centre right away, looking as presidential as possible, and get Biden out of the picture.

Rallying behind someone else at this point would be incredibly hard. It's going to fall apart.
And yet all that said, even if Biden didn't know who he is for most of the day, I'd take him over Trump.

Biden has clearly been having "senior" moments, and it's not going to get better as time goes on.

Yep, it's true. He's consistently awful. And as a result of his inane ramblings having always been there, he is also held to a far lower standard and is still delivering what his voters want. In fact, he's probably delivering more of it this time around because he's got even more venom and has been emboldened over the last few years. In spite of his slip-ups, nonsensical sentences and baffling brazen lies, he's not showing decline the way Biden has been. That's a real problem.

You know things have turned to crap when the choice is between,
A white guy in his 80’s that’s a proud black woman.
or,
A psychotic loon that will do anything for money and has most likely been taking Russian money all along, AND has already incited a full blown coup that he’s gotten away with.
Decisions decisions.

This simply isn't true and you know it isn't.
He's cognitively slower, less able to respond quickly to questions off the cuff, manage his stutter etc but if he had the kinds of mental conditions he's being accused of there's absolutely no way he'd be able to function at the public level he is. His errors in wording are also not remotely new, he's been doing this stuff for donkey's years.
I don't think he should be running again, the arguments made that he had pitched himself as a transitional one term President originally is how it should have played out and the Democrats will definitely need to think hard and early about 2029 but I do think he's their sole shot now at beating Trump and that the polls suggesting they remain tied are correct.Last edited by Neon Ignition; 12-07-2024, 23:26.
