            I can't wait for this.
Trump has lived his life surrounded by yes men, so I love it when he's challenged.

Going to be interesting if she'll be able to shut down his lies, because he does make a lot of stuff up, off the cuff and nobody seems to live fact-check him on them.

I heard this will be the first of 3 debates, using other networks too.
I'm assuming one of those will be Fox News, but I don't think they'll be too lenient on him.

So what happened is that Trump announced at his press conference at Mar a Lago yesterday that not only would he debate Harris, but debate her three times - on Fox, ABC and NBC. And he said the Fox one would be the first one, on September 4th, followed by the other two later in the month.

That was an obvious attempt to tackle the fact that he was pretty transparently looking like he was scared of debating Harris, since he kept giving so many excuses not to. Which kinda does go against the whole 'Strong man' image which he's going for.

It was also calibrated to make him look like he was taking charge of things, and had the added benefit of positioning the Trump-friendliest network first, for the softest landing, probably with a view to setting the agenda and media consensus for subsequent debates too.

However - Harris has hit back and agreed only to the original scheduled debate, September 10th on ABC, which would have originally been with Biden and is what she's been pushing for all along.

ABC have confirmed that debate will be going ahead with both candidates.

Harris has said she is open to discussing further debates beyond this.

So essentially, after a ****load of flimflam and excuses, we've come full circle and Trump is going to have to do the original ABC debate he's been trying to avoid since Harris became the presumptive nominee.

I think I'm gonna have to stay up and watch this one live. He is going to get absolutely cooked. The woman is an elite prosecutor lol. Dis gon b gud.

              EDIT:

In other news, both 538 and Nate Silver (pre-eminent US psephologists who use models which draw on a number of weighted poll sources), are now tracking Harris as having overtaken Trump outside the margin of error after she achieved statistical parity a few days ago.

ABC News is your trusted source on political news stories and videos. Get the latest coverage and analysis on everything from the Trump presidency, Senate, House and Supreme Court.

Both currently give Harris a 2.1% national lead. This is different to the previous polling which gave Harris a lead, which was based on an individual Ipsos poll, because it is multi-source.

As of yesterday, for the first time, bookmakers have Dems odds-on to win.

When money is involved you know there's no ideological bias...

I'm now wondering if he goes ahead with the Fox one solo and tries to use it to make out she has 'backed out' through fear

He could, but it would be a risky strategy. She's consistently told him to **** off and stick to the already scheduled one on the 10th. Even if he could persuade Fox to set the whole thing up - which I think is uncertain, considering how much of a clown show it would be even by Fox's low standards - it would be kind of a really weird thing to hold this 'debate' which the other candidate never agreed to. It would be fundamentally different to if Trump hadn't shown up to the September 10th, which he fully agreed to and which has been on the books for a long time.

It's going to be a long month for Trumpworld, though, so maybe we could see that kind of desperate gambit. For the next couple of weeks they're going to be searching for an attack line while Trump appears to have a schedule focused on killing time visiting going on manosphere pods and campaigning in safe states like Montana, while Harris campaigns relentlessly in the swing states. Then before the end of the month it's the DNC, which is going to be another big, positive moment for the Dems.

By the time we hit September, mail-in ballots will already be starting. Then there's the September 10th debate...

Former President Donald Trump recounted a story to reporters on Thursday about being involved in a helicopter emergency landing with former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown.

At what point do you stop assuming everything Trump says is a lie and start to properly assess the direction of his congnetive capabilities, eh media?

Vance’s was the most recent of the Republican criticisms of how Harris portrays herself, in the wake of Trump’s comments last week to the National Association of Black Journalists conference in Chicago.

With Trump pretty much committing to holding off proper campaigning this month I've been reading speculation about why. I don't think it's because he doesn't know how to tackle Harris, he'll happily spout nonsense about anyone then run with what sticks. Some speculation about if health is a concern but I'm doubtful on that front too. I'm more into the line that his campaign is already running low on funds

I actually disagree and I do think a lack of effective attack line on Harris is a massive problem for Trump and his campaign.

As much as I hate the guy, since 2016 he's demonstrated a real knack for identifying catchy, memorable, effective attack lines - all the way through from 'Low Energy Jeb', to 'Lock her up', to 'Sleepy Joe'.

He can't seem to settle on one for Harris. 'Cacklin' Kamala' and 'Laffin' Kamala' didn't really take off, so he started playing the hits with 'Lyin' Kamala' (a repeat of 'Lyin' Joe Biden').

They're not sticking, though. And we're seeing increasingly odd choices of attack as a result, like the recent one that Kamala Harris is apparently mean to her staff. This, from a guy whose LITERAL CATCHPHRASE is 'You're Fired'

I don't discount the campaign running low on money at all - definitely a factor, especially since they're having to pour money into defending lawsuits regarding false election rigging claims in Georgia, and we've heard nothing about how small dollar donations are going (which means they're going badly).

But I think Trump is panicking, honestly. The guy is a narcissist. Underneath their bluster, narcissists have extremely fragile egos. Trump is deeply uncomfortable in rooms where he has to defend himself. Trump is hiding out and emerging only to throw red meat to his base because he doesn't know what else to do. Every time he does stick his head above the parapet, it goes awfully - just look at the NABJ and his press conference yesterday.

I don't think he or the rest of Trumpworld have a strategy for reversing Harris's momentum right now, and I would attribute his retreat from campaigning primarily to that.

                            It's definitely fascinating to watch.
I'm pleased the narrative has switched to how Biden is old and senile (which he didnt help dispute, if we're honest), to a positive position.

Obviously, I'm aware that I've got a left-leaning social media bubble, but there's been a definite shift away from fear that Biden will lose to Trump, to a lot more negative press for Trump.

His recent Mar-a-Lago interview was pretty poor. Despite him being able to control the narrative more than a debate, he ended up getting aggressive with anyone who dared ask him a challenging questions - "What a stupid question"

Flabbergasts me that nobody ever repeats back what he's just said. "So, to clarify, you're saying that you had more people attending your conference than at Martin Luther King's speech?" "So, just to make things crystal clear, you're saying that you were in a helicopter crash and survived?"

Can't wait for the debate if Harris doesn't let him get away with lying.

I'm going to wakka's house for the first debate with some teeth-eroding 'merican snax and we'll watch it together.
