When GamerGate was around, sure, there generally were some odd things going on in games journalism and not everyone who supported it was a violent, manosphere-humping misogynist. But too many people were the aformentioned wankers, and using the 'journalism' thing as a smokescreen to be violent towards women - and if you supported the movement, you were saying that's not a deal-breaker for you.
This country has issues with immigration. Not even from some xenophobic/racist perspective; I just mean the amount of money we're spending on hotels and the issues successive governments have created, undermining the services that handle immigration in the same way the Tories ****ed the NHS (i.e. make it worse and worse over a decades until the public asks you to do away with it, i.e. "social engineering"). But going out to "protest" in the hottest week of the year while your compatriots are out torching libraries is not going to get your message across.

People justifiably blaming the likes of Robinson and Farage for firing up these Nazis, but I'd like to see it acknowledged in media and by government that the slogans they are chanting are directly from previous official Tory policy and communications. 'Stop the Boats', 'Take Back Control', etc. Patel, Braverman, Sunak and the rest should be called out on it. Funny how there's no sign of 'em - they're quiet as mice now.

Classic Tory ideology baked into the cake.

And let's not pretend that this issue with immigration wasn't mainly engineered by fourteen years of austerity enforced by Cameron & Osborn for political point-scoring.
Nothing (social housing, social security, armed forces, NHS, council services, etc) works because it has been starved of cash for a decade and a half-plus. Blame the foreigners for it!

I support asylum seekers for a charity in Bristol, so the issue is personal to me. One of the hotels that has been used to house asylum seekers was attacked last night. I will check tomorrow whether any of my clients have been affected, I sincerely hope not. I hope every asylum seeker in Bristol knows that they are welcome here and that these thugs do not represent popular opinion. Certainly my experience when canvassing in the election is that most people are empathetic and the hardliners are a small minority. People who have been forced to flee their country do not deserve all this bull****. Those responsible must pay.
