For a petty crime charge going to prison at 16 out the gate seems nuts as an outcome

My parents were keen to keep me and my sister away from funerals until we got older so I was around 15/16 by the time the first one came around. Our wider family is pretty large and spread across a few countries so when my Grandad died we had a run of cousins popping up we'd never met before. The service and day was as you'd expect with the most awkward bit being around halfway through the service one cousin said something that started several of quietly laughing. Well, once that started the knowledge of how awkward it was in that setting just kept us all going right the way through to the end.

Sadly it seems that throughout the 90s lots of 16-17 year olds died in custody in general population. I'm sure it isn't the case that their put in general population for petty crimes anymore, but that wasn't the case in 95-96 when i was 16-17.

As best as can recall, my maternal grandmonther 25 years ago. Everyone in tears in general, except me, so I was keeping the rest of the immediate family propped up as best can. I suppose that was a first indicator my emotional sense and aura wasn't quite like many others. Not that I wasn't sad, I was, but not in the way you see people react at events such as this.

High school aged 16, I'd struggle to say it was a precise enough example to feel like it counted and like with many I wouldn't call it that successful either. I was a year later when the next time came around properly with someone, not that wildly different either.

GameFAQs, circa 1999, back when it was ran by CjayC, its original owner. I think he eventually sold it to GameSpot, who were bought by IGN?

But the original forums were the first community I found online to talk about videogames. And I do have a particular strong memory about them; they were the first place I ever saw online to say they would ban people for using homophobic slurs, such as referring to a bad game or show was "gay". I actually remember seeing someone get permabanned for having a meltdown when he was disciplined for saying "Saint Seya is gay".

Anime genesis? I think that's what it was called?

Then Spaced-out, a fan forum mainly focused on the series Spaced which I was a huge fan of. Got invited to be an extra zombie in Shaun of the Dead but I had my freshers week at the time and met my husband that same week.

Site still works but forum sadly not
