Going to be in Shinjuku for the first week of September any one local to the area fancy a pint?
Sure - Shinjuku is but half an hour walk from where I like. PM me nearer the time.

Hmm, just spoken with a couple of Japanese travel agents trying to book a one way trip back to the UK, and they are telling me the airlines aren't taking reservations now for travel over the next fw weeks.

Looks like this will be a long holiday!

Does that mean they're flying but clearing the backlog or that there are nk flights planned for that time period?

If it's the latter I'm slightly worried!!

I was meant to be flying back tomorrow, and I`ve now been told 5th May by Virgin Atlantic. Yeah, not best pleased really, I`ll be stuck here for 2 more weeks. I went and booked a dorm in Sakura Hostel, which should be great fun.

Gonna have to just make the most of it I guess... or I could sit around crying all day long.

Ouch, I haven't been able to get through to Finnair at all so might get some similar news when I do.

Spoke to the Embassy and they are keeping a log of numbers to contact when they do get some news. They have also asked London for advice on the policy of all airlines in Japan (apparently) not offering hotel/food support. This may be in breach of regulations for airlines based in the EU. Advice was to keep all receipts and see what happens.

I believe it's no new bookings the Japanese offices are taking - based on conversations with two travel agencies today. Existing flights are as per standard, but subject to cancellation based on the ash. Seems like the airlines are currently announcing if a flight is taking place 24 hours or so before it is due to leave.

I`m gonna try and get down to the Embassy tomorrow. Not sure how much help it will be, but its not like I have anything better to do...

This is gonna cost me another 600 quid or something, so I want some sort of refund for it. I was sitting in Akiba park when I rang the airline. When she said 5th May I punched the nearest tree and cut my hand up pretty bad too. That didn`t help...

Plus I`m gonna miss the release of Super Street Fighter IV! Gotta get my priorities straight!

What's your trip? I'm checking my return flight from Narita to Heathrow daily and apparently it's on schedule, flying British Airways. Even the second flight from Heathrow to Malpensa (northern Italy) has no problems.
Maybe it's better I ring BA to ask for more details...BTW, I'm in Sakura Hotel Jimbocho right now :P Does the hostel you are in still have free beds?

                    RUMOUR ALERT

An Air Hostess friend just told me Lufthansa plan to fly Nagoya - Frankfurt again shortly...

I've emailed Expedia to ask about where I stand if things don't resolve themselves before it's time for me to fly (which is still 4 weeks away to be fair) as I didn't take out the insurance they offered as I get that through my bank account.

When I called Lloyds TSB this morning just to enquire about what to do should it all go tits-up they told me that I would have to speak to the travel operator directly. What's the point of paying Lloyds TSB for a service that I then can't use?

I'm hoping it won't come to this but my wife and I have our hearts set on this holiday. We've had a ****ty year and this was supposed to be our reward for "surviving" basically.

People will feel wrath like never before if we don't get to go!!

Assuming they fly, I just got a Finnair ticket (Nagoya - Helsinki - London) returning on the 26th April (Monday week). This was based on my Saturday 17th flight being cancelled.

                        Fingers/toes/eyes crossed.

Just been Reading the BBC website and apparently there's another ash cloud heading down which is casting doubts on northern airports reopening tomorrow.

Hit the motherload today - a used game/figure store spread over 3 floors near Osu Kannon in Nagoya. Name of the store is Mandarake.

Had a nice browse for a while and picked up a Gundam Wing TV series animation cell of Treize Kushrinada.

There's another in Nakano in Tokyo. Not bad for games either.
