Right then. I'm gonna ressurect this thread!

    BUUUUMP!

Me and a friend are off in September HOPEFULLY for 2 weeks but will settle for one. Also, that Sakura Hotel sounds pretty good to me.

Few questions - is September a good time of year to go? Should we push it a month earlier? Next, you all say how easy it is to pull there, but do you need to know Japanese to pull? Thirdly, someone reccomend me some nice oldy worldy japan scenery near to Tokyo!

    Cheers

It's not easy to pull. It's easy to BE pulled, but if there aren't any women around who take a shine to you and can speak english, forget it - I tried approaching women and just got a lot of blank expressions, so the one time I got approached was the only time I pulled. Also note Roppongi is notorious for transexuals, this was very obvious when I went there but this thread had not prepared me for the fact!

Nightlife on the whole was the only disappointing thing for me, Shibuya was dead on a Saturday night, the only club that had a queue outside turned us away because Gaijin weren't allowed in unless on the guest list. THe well known clubs (club asia and the other one) were both shut. So we had one cracking night when some girls invited us to karaoke but the rest was sucksville.

P.S. September is fine, that's when I went - 50% glorious sunshine 50% rain though.

Regarding Sept., it's considered to be the best time to visit along with May. Aug is still too hot for comfort, but during Sept the first signs of autumn start to show which is a relief after three months of suana like conditions during the summer.

Watch out for the Typhoons though.

            Pulling in Japan eh?

            Allow me

Well 1st things 1st, if your a good looking guy then obviously its easier for you, however dont despair ugly blokes, you do see tonnes of loser gaijin with incredible women in tow.

            2) Japan is a 1st world country (sort of) the women you are trying to pul are probably as educated and sophisticated as you (for the most part) Its not Bangkok, you cant just walk into a place and stand there at the bar and expect the women to flock around you (unless it is very, very late and there are no large US navy ships in dock) YOU HAVE TO ACTUALLY CHAT THEM UP

            3) To guarantee a shag, make a few email friends on japanguide.com. They are usually English students looking for some excitement. Remember folks If you meet them, you will shag them, guaranteed 100% never fails.

            4) Japanese women always say ?on no no? when asked to go to a love hotel, without wanting to sound like a sex offender, this actually means ?yes, yes please? the same goes for when you are having sex with them, its all ?no, oh no, stop? in a playful manner. They think its what you want to hear, Japanese men all seem to have a fantasy about violating women u see (beware, can be off putting).

            5) Good places to pull ?
Clubs - Club Asia and Womb in Shibuya, 911, Lexington queen and Wall Street in ?pongi
Misc ? There is an all night convenience store in Shibuya, near Bunkamura near Xanadu, lots of girls hang around there until 5:30 when the subway starts again. Invite them for a coffee in the all night Starbucks next door, if you have anything about you, head for Dogenzaka together after that.
Yoyogi Park on a Sunday ? everyone know that 1
Yoyogi Park in summer between 5 am and 10 am, great pickup spot I found totally by accident when I was too ****** up to go to bed, it is full with likeminded folk (mostly young women) pupils dilated wanting to hang out. My fav pickup spot in the world, never fails

            There u go

So how do you find the ones who speak english jushin? I've got a mental image of you sweeping an entire club asking all the women in turn until you find one who knows what you're saying Then again if you were in Roppongi maybe you were going home with the transexuals.. I hear they never say no!

When I was there in October Club Asia was shut, completely... the sister club was open but only until midnight, and there were only 5 people in it. Honestly it was so disappointing. We tried numerous places and nowhere had more than a few random people in it. Except for Gaspanic which was just like any UK club, playing ****ty r'n'b and full of gaijin all with the same ideas, shoving each other around.

I have gone to Club Asia a few times and found it shut on a Saturday and Friday night, then open again on Tuesday for some ****ty band with no explanation as to why. Its a great club tho, if you know the right people.
That sister club is pretty dull over the road isnt it?
I used to love GasPanic, but cant stand it now. I dare say i will pop in next time i am in town tho.

Well in clubs like Home, CA and in Roppongi a lot of the women are there to meet Gaijin, so they speak english. Even if they dont a little Japanese gets you a long way.
I went to 1 bar that was full of Russian transexuals in Roppongi they kept following me to the toilet and getting really really pissed off when i told them 'no thanks'
Great bar, called Manhatten or something, loads of cute japanese girls there all trying to '1 up' the trannys. Not been able to find it since.

                    oh happy days

I sought refuge from the dubious 'women' in the Roppongi branch of Gaspanic (the one I mentioned above was the Shibuya one farthest from Hachiko) on a thursday... I was one of two customers and 10 staff members in the place. The french barmaid was telling me that nobody really goes to Roppongi because it's so notorious for the gender reassignment thing, but that if I'd gone to Gaspanic on friday it would have been busy cos it's a popular place. Well I still had memories of empty clubs in Shibuya putting me off going there on my last night, so I went back to Gaspanic/Roppongi on the friday - barmaid had been telling porkies, there were maybe 10 people there, 6 of whom were guys. Ended up just grabbing a taxi home. It almost fits the stereotypical 'try to copy something and get it totally wrong' view of Japanese society. The clubs had all the glitz and glam and booze and music but they were just completely lacking in people or atmosphere. I reckon all social interaction takes place on the street, karaoke parlours and arcades.

Late Sept is a great time to go - on my first trip we left here on the 29th and it was clear blue skys and fresh winds but still fairly warm enough to walk around in a t-shirt for most of the day and night. My second trip was early/mid May and that was a bit overcast and rainy for the week I was there. My most recent trip was middle September and for the first week it was very humid and sticky but then it cooled down nicely for the second week.

The Sakura Hotel is a good basic hotel to stay in for the Tokyo area with friendly helpful staff and a nice 24 hour cafe and seats outside. I would also recommend K's House in Kyoto if you venture down that far which I would highly suggest you do. Kyoto is full of old Japan whereas Tokyo only really has the Imperial Palace.

I would recommend a trip down to Kamakura to check out the big outdoor buddha and the temples. It's only about 1 hour away. A trip to the 5th statuion (half way up so you are above the clouds) of Mt Fuji is a definite must do!

I wouldn't know about pulling as I have been with my girlfriend on all my trips.

Three trips to Japan in 2 years and I hope to go back this September again

An Izakaya with a Japanese friend is the only way to start a night, my fav in on the 3rd floor of the Grand Cafe Bagus building on Shibuya centre gai. Something like Y1,500 for all you can drink for 2 hours + great food. That is where everyone is between 8 and 12, not Gas Panic et al.
CA and Home are great clubs tho, really busy and a really good atmosphere in my experiance.
Its like everywhere, you need some local knowlege to get the best out of it

Hey I read about 50 odd pages of this thread and I must say thanks to everyone who posted lots of great tips and information.

Justin your posts about picking up Japanese girls are great You make it sound like they are complete slags, is that true or are you just good with women?

Also, Ive always wanted to go to Japan and I will probably go if I dont start Uni in 2007 (Im Sixth Form atm) Can you give me a rough estimate as to how much money I will need for like a 3 week holiday over there. I probably wouldn't go very far exploring loads of places, Im not really into sight seeing so bear that in mind when calculating an estimate.

What is the drinking age there? Is it 21 like in America? Do you recommend going alone or is it better to bring a friend...

                            Comment

I took ?2000 in yen for 3 weeks and had money to burn at the end (which I did) - note this also had to cover accommodation.

I also wish I had gone alone, but obviously this depends on the friend and how likely they are to stuff things up for you.

drinking age is like 22? I had about 2 grand for three weeks and that was for everything, including the ?600-ish flight and a two week train pass and that was just about right. Depends if you're planning to buy any really expensive stuff...
