yeah youre right man, each to their own. for me, osaka is the closest to feeling at home ive ever felt, anywhere in the world. ive been here 6 weeks and im in love with the place (and the cutest girl ive ever had the pleasure of meeting, but thats another story )

sounds like you had some funny experiences in osaka! funnily enough i did see a wasted dude in tennoji starting on the station master tonight when i was walking with the gf.

actually, funny story...the first night i moved into my apartment in bentencho, i got stoned with a japanese friend who lives here too...i hadnt slept or eaten in 27 hours of something equally ridiculous. long story short, i was bonging it, got more ****ed than ive ever been before, got the fear, thought i was going to die, and stumbled around the streets of osaka, alone, cold sweat dripping off my face, seriously thinking i was going to die....i must have been one hell of a sight.i remember asking an old woman where a hospital was, and i didnt understand what she was saying...and then i remember 5 minutes later she running after me, to give me a hastily drawn map with directions....i never went to the hospital in the end and i dunno wtf i did with the map. anyway, it turns out i left my apartment door wide open in my rush to escape, with my powerbook and ipod clearly visible in the kitchen...thankfully nothing was stolen. but hey, what a ****ing way to christen a new apartment.

if i can be pulling a whitey on the streets of a city and not get raped, mugged, beaten up or deported, its cool with me.

I'm going in 13 days, and landing Thurday 6th of April. Will be living at the dormitory of Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, in Fuchu-shi, west of central/downtown Tokyo. How long am I staying? 5 years in Japan, funded by the Japanese government. Reckon I'll go to TGS as well. Come to think of it that might be the first opportunity to get a hands-on with PS3 and Revolution.

I was thinking that myself. Sony delaying the PS3 until November worked out brilliantly for anyone going to the TGS!

the thought had never even crossed my mind..

Just realized you guys might have some information regarding this.. When I'm moving I'm bringing 4-5 harddrives along with me, in addition to my laptop. They're filled with game images (as to not bring along a bag of PC-CD/DVD-covers), music, video, documents and projects, and basically I have all my digital efforts stored on these drives. What I was wondering is if anyone has every brought a laptop or harddrives into Japan, and how the customs/security reacted to this. Did they ask you questions about it, or examine your laptop, or anything like that? I don't have a lot to hide really, but I'd like to keep my stuff private, and having them connect up and browsing one of the harddrives would be somewhat awkward. "No, really, I didn't know I had that in my cache!".

I'm guessing it won't pose a problem. Last year when I went my baggage was opened and the customs guy just peeked into it, and closed it again.

When I took my laptop there and back they didn't even bother to take it out of the bag. I'd guess that the chances of them asking you to take it out and power it on are slim - let alone peruse the contents of a hard drive.

When I took mine, I left it in sleep mode in case they wanted to inspect it. First airport scan check thing they didn't even ask if I had one so I left it in my carry on bag. Second time they asked if I had one so I took it out and they put it through the scanner on it's own. They never took it out of it's slip case, let alone opened it up and snooped around.

I think Osaka is bollox compared to Tokyo. Serious question-does anyone actually choose to live in Osaka? I`ve never heard of anyone.

Is Osaka really that bad? I was planning to go there for a week or so, mainly for games. I went to Tokyo this January with my wife, for games it was good, but a lot of the stuff is more expensive then I thought. Is Osaka as good as Tokyo in terms of games?
