The season is turning into something of a disaster...but tbh I think people are getting a little carried away and probably had expectations that were unrealistic.
At the start of the season, looking at how much we had spent and the overall quality and value of our squad, I thought we would finish no higher than 3rd again but hoped we would finish a little closer points wise to the eventual winner - anything better seemed fairly unlikely. I'm pretty surprised at how many people seriously thought we would be in with a chance of the league this season.
I think a change of manager will be a pretty hefty backwards step, especially if funds are going to dry up.
To make this current side into League winners would require the purchase of 3 or 4 top drawer (i.e ?15-20m) players or for a few of the promising young players like Insua, Nemeth & Pacheco etc. to turn out to be real world beaters and come through together. I don't think either will happen.
I don't see how Mourinho/Hiddink/whoever could get the current bunch to win it.
The one worry is the players loosing faith in him, Gerrard seemed to get the hump when Lucas came on and he was shifted up and across the pitch (despite it being the absolute correct change, as Gerrard instantly saw more of the ball in space).
