In the MOTD replays he looks to be saying "What's Happening?".

If that's a yellow card now then the more vocal players like John Terry and Carragher etc. might as well retire, they won't play more than 5 games a season.

The referee said he got his second yellow for persistent dissent, which is well justified. After he got booked (very rightly) for the challenge on Scholes everytime there was foul or incident he was over at referee saying something. Common sense should have prevailed, the guy was already booked so there was no reason for him to keep chipping away at the referee.

I don't think saying (not shouting) "What's happening?" x3 and then "Why?" to the referee constitutes dissent really.
Of course, he shouldn't have gone over and said anything, but it's a bit different to some of the motor-mouths in the league like Carra, Terry, Bellamy, A.Cole etc who spend literally half their time on the pitch swearing like rabid animals at the ref/linos/4th official - if this is the rule now they will get sent of every single time they play - which obviously wont happen.

Ultimately the guy was being silly but being silly shouldn't be a red card offence.

The FA need to get a clue. The joke of a yellow for a player just fouled followed by a very soft red card will not raise respect for refs. It'll just hurt the fans who have their games ruined by red cards.

If the FA wants refs to get respect they need to stop propping up bad refs (a certain retired ref who embarassed the country's fellow proffesionals at the world cup should've been sacked or demoted for his performance). Refs have absolute power and players and managers have very little recourse for bad decisions, yet the FA thinks relations will improve by making it more and more difficult to air grievences.

It'll just build up frustrations. If the players know venting at a bad ref will earn a card, they'll keep getting more and more frustrated until they get into a brawl or do a deliberate leg breaking tackle.

It wasn't a straight red, was a second yellow.

That's the thing, he is not saying "what's happening" everytime! He did when he got involved after Torres got booked but the instances before that he was swearing blind at the referee. Stupid of him really cos he had already been booked, he only has himself to blame. There must be a reason why Alonso was trying to hold him back and why Rafa got off the bench to get someone to hold him back as soon as he walked 20 yards to "chat" to the referee. They knew what the result would be and it was rightly deserved second yellow.

Sounds like a deserved three points today, should guarantee fourth unless we completely fall apart in the coming weeks. Can't wait for the three Arsenal games coming up

4th place is all but yours and so too are the bragging rights over your Blue neighbours...

We did. Should of been about 3 or 4. They looked comfortable, but I can't feel comfortable when it's just 1 nil

Yeah, The Trilogy should be great.. and all on telly!

1-1, Kuyt. All as a result of a superb run by Stevie G.

Liverpool are in a good position, and I don't really see Arsenal getting a result at Anfield in the 2nd leg to be honest.

Liverpool in the driving seat but I certainly wouldn't count Arsenal out yet. Should be an intriguing return leg at Anfield.

Yeah, it'll be tight and edgey again. Pens? Hope not.
