Why are people not seeing this? You cannot pick an England team (or any football team) based on a players history, or sentimentality. It will not work. I bet you're all the same people that constantly berated Ericsson/McClaren for sticking with Lampard and Gerrard for so long.
England fans for years have been demanding a manager that picks the best players for the team rather than the players that look the best on paper, now we finally get a manager that's going to do that and you're all demanding Beckham gets a completely unwarranted place. Ugh.

Beckham will get his 100th cap when he deserves to be picked, when he is back playing regular competitive football for his club and not when he is training with Arsenal. He is not match fit at all, last time he played a match was in November. It does not make sense for him to be picked over someone like David Bentley who deserves his place in the squad via his performances for his club. I'm sure Beckham himself understands, he is a proud footballer and I'm sure he doesn't want his 100th cap to be one he got out of pity/sympathy.
As for the the squad, I am pretty happy with it to be honest. Nice to see Agbonlahor get picked, will be interesting to see how him and Rooney play together (if they get the chance).Last edited by ezee ryder; 31-01-2008, 15:48.

Woodgate is in the squad because the guy is a good defender, shame that injuries have hampered him. I don't think his inclusion is because he plays for a London club because if you look at it that way there are only 8 players out of 30 included that play for London clubsHeskey is included because again his club form has been pretty good and his last few England performances were pretty good. As for Bentley, yes he made made mistake not wanting to play for the U21's but the guy is a good footballer and should not be condemned for life because of his one mistake. If we did that then Beckham should not have played football ever again for England after his red card in 1998.
