I think PC support may come eventually. They would stand to make substantially less from each buyer who purchases solely to use it on PC, so they will be looking to recoup costs from the much more lucrative PS5 userbase first.

I get the console might be tweaked to support it specifically but it's not like PC doesn't already support similar headsets...
To me it's just money being left on the table.
Support may come when they feel sales start to wane on PS5 for psvr2 as a whole.
I also imagine its a lot less hassle supporting 1 sku of hardware that’s always the same.

I ordered one the other day and I'll be trying Gran Turismo 7 and Resident Evil Village. Not sure I want to bother with Horizon as it's costly and I don't really want more introduction to VR experiences but this will be one of the first to arrive on PS+ I reckon, if they ever include VR content.
Something else to consider and not sure why they haven't done it but if you can sideload video content, the device would be VR Porn viable (hurray!) and that would no doubt equal a bunch more sales.

I would imagine its just not a financially viable option at this point. The initial production for preorder was pegged at two million units, Sony then cut this to one million due to lack preorders and there are still units available to purchase.
Lets be honest Sony will do their best to make this a success - Unlike MicrosoftLast edited by huxley; 17-02-2023, 12:37.

It took years for the PS4 to get that support, and as I've sold off my PS4, my PS3 may be coming back out of retirement soon.

Looking at the official teardown video it looks like the headset is quite complex to assemble and does make me wonder if the margins on it are fairly slim.
Just seen payment has been taken for my PSHat2 as well. I hope it has enough oomph to drive my normal headphones and that they fit over the band ok as I can’t wear in ear style phones.Last edited by CMcK; 17-02-2023, 18:16.

It's weird, the PSVR2/sold-at-loss thing, because I don't know...
The Quest 2 is in some respects much simpler hardware, but in others, much more complex - being stand-alone, it has an entire high-end mobile phone's worth of hardware, along with wifi components. The PSVR2's screen is better quality (one of its best features), but then, it's by Sony, and if anyone can economise the creation of screen panels, it's them. The controllers are largely comparable.
I'm actually not so sure it is sold at a loss, purely on the hardware level. Soft level, i.e. paying off the R&D and the software, that's a different ballgame.

PSVR2 has eye tracking and HDR OLED panels so it's quite a step up from a Quest 2. Only people who know if it's sold at a loss are Sony of course so you may be right there Asura. What Sony don't want though is PC VR Gamers taking stock from PS5 owners and given PSVR2 is easily the best value for money VR right now that's exactly what would happen if they made it PC compatible.
