  • Neo Geo - The Future Is Now

Neo Geo - The Future Is Now

The Neo Geo system today is a paradox: it is both a ‘retro’ console (the machines are not in production) but one for which there are still games being developed and marketed. Few home systems can boast of such an achievement, and none have ever had games in mass production so many years after the machine itself had ceased to be made.
The reasons behind this stem from the nature of the hardware: the Neo Geo was created in 1990 by SNK (Shin Nihon Kikaku, or ‘New Japan Project’ ) as bo...

Top 10 PC Engine games (Top Ten)

NEC's diminutive white console was an icon of 80's gaming cool. Playing host to a plethora of stunning shooters & arcade conversions (and never being officially released outside Japan in its original form), it was the machine that kick started the import market as we know it today. Ludicrously expensive to obtain and viewed by the domestic gamer with an almost godlike reverence, its cult status was assured right from the beginning. Today, the PC Engine still retains its position as one of gamin...

Dreamcast Peripherals and Hardware List with photos

The Dreamcast is a must have system for techno-lusting hardware fetishists everywhere, providing home to a wide range of fascinating peripherals. It is remarkable given Sega's financial difficulties that the company released so many weird and wonderful devices for a machine that could make or break them . Most of this hardware was available within the first twelve months of the Dreamcast's launch, fighting for the attention of gamers (and their money) from the outset.

BordersDown talks to Evolution Studios About Mini Motorstorm RC

Hot on the heels of our Motorstorm: RC Review, we have an exclusive interview with Paul Rustchynsky of Evolution Studios. They say he can beat a bear in an arm wrestle with one arm tied behind his back and that he was the inspiration for Nuclear power, all we know is he is called Rushy.
RC racing is an overlooked genre, what were the team's main influences for this game and how did the decision to make MotorStorm RC come about? Paul Frewin the Technical Director on MotorStorm RC is...

    2011 Import Video Game Round-up

There were a number of games worth checking out that were released in Japan in 2011 but will probably not arrive in in the West. Fortunately a few like Last Story, Pandora's Tower and Catherine have now found publishers over here, which is great news for gamers everywhere.

The PS3 saw the release of the HD remaster of Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, based on the 2010 PSP release. It added an online mode and the ability to transfer characters between PS3 and PSP and is one of the best...

    Syndicate Co-op Demo Review - Microsoft Xbox360

Based on the game-world of the old PC classic real time strategy / action / arcade (!) game, Syndicate is looking to make its mark this time around instead in the crowded FPS world. Based on the demo, it has succeeded. It's a one level demo with various checkpoints, culminating with a boss. 4 players, either random or in a private match, choose a loadout from defence, offense or support. These provide a basic weapon choice from the start, although other weapons can be picked up along the way. No...

My GOTY in terms of time spent on it is Battlefield 3. It's flawed in many ways and appears rushed, but...

  • Radiohead KID A MNESIA Exhibition - Report
    by Adrian Purser
Appearing recently on digital storefronts, this digital exhibition coincides with the 20th anniversary re-release and bringing together of Radiohead's Kid A and Amnesiac albums. It's been made in collaboration between the band and Epic Games, though it's also very quick to tell you that it is not a game, epic or otherwise. That, I think, is a mixture of nervous expectation-setting, alongside its creators selling both games, and what they've created, short.
Unless you're one of those sorts...

  • Datel Freeloader Review - Action Replay Gamecube Region Free disc
    by Charles R
Once upon a time, there was a Freeloader. It was late, as usual, but everyone waited with baited breath, because it promised much.

And so it came to pass, the Freeloader finally arrived, and oh what gifts it brought. The ability to de-zone everyone's Gamecubes. Finally, an easy (and cheap) way for anyone in the world to play games from anywhere else in the world. It was welcomed with open arms.
Datel, after many delays, have now released their de-zoning disc. Twice. The f...

  • Goldeneye N64 Retrospective
    by Archives
Describing the greatness of Goldeneye isn't the easiest task in the world. If you were to show it to a gamer who has recently been showered with PC First Person Shooters such as Far Cry, then they'd scoff at the low-polygon landscapes, the poor digitised textures of Robbie Coltrane and the frame rate equivalent to the IQ of a table leg. They'd be missing the point though, as levels such as "Surface" are the forebears to Far Cry's grand vistas.
Which leads us nicely into one of the reaso...

  • TGS 2003 - Tokyo Game Show Report
    by Archives
As a first visit to any kind of games show, it was going to be very interesting to see what all the fuss was about. I remember reading about the Tokyo Game Show among other shows in magazines years back and having a sense of delight and amazement. Did you ever dream of going to a game show in Japan? I'm sure it's something most avid gamers can associate with. On Sunday the 28th of September, my wife and I headed towards Makuhari messe from western Tokyo, a journey of 2 hours. When we finally ...
