http://w1zard0f07.i8.com/ might help for some of the games that won't install. You need to connect your ps2 HD to your PC though.

I used the downloaded version, and when I go to install the 60gb Maxtor, it hung on the "now formatting" screen for an hour, now it wont do anything when I load the disc up.

      Any ideas anyone?

Oh well, thanks anyway James. Gradius V and Psyvariar were the two games I really wanted it for; if neither works then I'm really glad I've not wasted any money.

          Hi Guys

I've just set this up last night with my chipped PS2 a Maxtor Diamond Plus 120GB hard drive and a downloaded version of HD Loader.

I set the HD to master, connected it all up fine, started up the HD Loader software, formatted my hard disk - all ok.

But when I try and copy a game (have tried several) it asks me to insert a disk - which I do - and then it says checking CD / DVD and stays on that 0% position for a very long time. This is a brand new PS2 and every game plays fine on it.

I've also tried using a downloaded version of HD Advance and get exactly the same problem.

Does anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong here?

Is there any way to reformat the hard disk and try again??

          Any help very much appreciated.

I've spent all morning reading up on this (thank god my boss is away) and while no one has the same problem as me the solution I am going to try is:

            1. Using dms-hdd-format in my PS2 to re-format my PS2 and try again from there - apparently this tool is better than using HD Loader to format your HDD (so say some random users on warez sites etc)
            2. Use hdl_dump (thanks for your link) but I've read the networking side of things is slow so will remove the hdd from PS2 and put it as SLAVE on my PC - copy all my games and then put back in PS2. Not sure if you can just put your PS2 disk in your PC drive and copy it from there or whether you have to make an iso first. Any ideas??

This seems like a much easier program to use :

              Link removed because:

utility that allows a user to send standard ISO backup images of PlayStation 2 games to the PS2 HDD
              Sorry about that :\

Anyway, head over to www.ps2newz.net to get the link to the program. (Im assuming that site is allowed as it doesnt host any illegal material?)

Sorry I can't help with this Reef.

It is almost exactly the same setup as I have except that I have the original HDLoader disc and not a DL one.

Really can't see where things are going wrong.

HD Loader is flaky I've found. None of my original games install! I either get "not a valid PS2 CD/DVD" or "not enough free space" messages (tried US / JP and PAL games - have a US messiah 2 modded machine).

So I have to make images on my PC and copy them across that way.

Pain in the arse, but worth it for those games not kind on laser activity (such as WE8 )

That message has been mentioned before and is just a small bug. It happens when you have just dumped a game on and then go straight into putting another one on.

If you get that message try to install the game again immediately and it will work.

That's the problem though - I either get that message or the CD / DVD one.. No matter how many times I reset.. very strange.

Wonder if this is an issue with the downloaded version.

                            Maybe it's a chip problem.

Silly question; just got my Network Adapter for HD Loader, do I need to install it first off using the accompanying Network Access Disc or not?

No. No need to do anything with the disks that come with the adapter. Just plug it all together and load HDLoader.
