        Out of interest?

Why is there so much negativity towards Halo 2?s end? It is pretty clear it is a cliffhanger, and a perfectly exciting one at that. The story has been built up quite extensively, raising some intriguing questions whilst still making the previous actions feel meaningful ? It wasn?t like the past 15 levels were wasted, they have all lead up to the final section perfectly?

It has already been stated in an interview ages ago that Halo 2 will be followed by Halo 3, so I don?t quite understand why there is so much confusion concerning Halo 2?s lack of an ultimate conclusion?.

I think Bungie did a great job with Halo 2. They obviously worked so hard making Halo 2 everything they could within their deadline? and I deeply feel they succeeded in presented a deeper, richer story with bags of potential?

        *thinks*

Ah? never mind. These sorts of discussions can never be justified one way or another really. I suppose you either liked it or you didn?t?

The same can be said for absolutely anything at all?

Halo 2 was always going to suffer from peoples high expectations, and it certainly has. I do think though that a second play through will be worth it as when you play through it he first time your always waiting for something spectacular to happen. Second time through you can just enjoy the gameplay.

I'm still only 3/4 the way through on Heroic so I can't comment on the ending.

A nice quote I just saw

Following the release of Halo 2 and the predictable complaints from the gaming community, which again has to discover that it's a videogame they just bought: not a piece of magic

            Cliffhanger endings are fine. Except in the following cases;

            - When they fail to wrap up most of the plot points
            - When they are sprung on you suddenly
            - When they last barely half a minute
            - When we know the sequel isn't going to show up for some time

Halo 2's ending was like the close of an episode of Eastenders (theoretically, obviously Halo 2 was 100 times better than Eastenders in general); sure, they usually end with a quick plotline in progress to keep viewers interested in watching, but the next episode is along the next day so it's not like the viewer has long to wait.

However, we are already well aware Bungie are going back to finish Phoenix or whatever they put aside for the original Halo, so we've got at least another game to wait before we get Halo 3. A long time to wait for this story to continue.

Your wrong Adam IMHO, the cutscene ending is a cop out. The whole game is a cop out. Sure I really enjoyed it and it's a fantstically realised world etc. But the game was marketed as Master Chief saving earth. What do we get? One level that has half the excitement, action, scale and excitement of the 'playable' E3 demo. The story over reaches itself and we end up moving away from what made Halo great in the first place, the MC, so much so that he doesn't even appear in the last few hours of play bar the cinematics. The game has been likened to Empire Strikes back which is being extremely kind to Halo 2. Halo 2 just ends, there is no revelation, there is no climatic battle. The game just ends, and a half assed cinematic supposedly sets us up for Halo 3, when the whole sell through on Halo 2 was supposedly the MC doing what is now promised in Halo 3: saving earth.

I enjoyed the game a lot but I'm a bit disappointed that what could have been a superlative game has been marketed as something it is blatantly not and that a really sprawling narrative has worked against the fantastic core gameplay.

I'm praying that Feb 9th offers Bungie a way to redeem all the fans of the game that feel as cheated as me. If this had been a film (as Bungie has stated thats what they they were aiming for) there would have been a lot of people that would have been asking for ticket refunds when the lights went up.

I hope perhaps we will find out the reason that Halo 2 seems so truncated: was it time as hinted to on the DVD or something else.

The first game had a great story arc and conclusion, with Halo 2 it just leaves a bitter taste on what it might have been.

Have you peple watched the "making of" in the LE version? They said the earth level from e32k3 demo was just not fun. They scrapped it, along with other things like the ATV (adds nothing to the gameplay, rendering you as an easy target for bad guys)

                Lots of interesting stuff there.

Ending was no way as bad as you people are making it out to be, i was expectin a lot worse, something like walking through a corridor and then the game suddenly ends. So i didnt mind what happened, was satisfied with the overall conclusion. On my second playthrough im really digging the story, much easier to understand, theres also a brilliant disscussion on rllmuk regarding the end. Some real interesting takes overthere. I suggest some of you (especially you Adam) go take a look, no negetivity, just some nice ideas on where the story is heading.

Anyway, its the only game to better halo, i cant play the orginal anymore. For the first time in 3 years im thinking about getting rid of it.

                well done bungie

The LE DVD was horse****. It was all about Bungie giving themselves a bloody good slap on the back and nothing really meaty about what was left out and the original direction of the storyline. Nothing mentioned about the original release date and its subsequent delay, and so on and so forth.

I still don't think it's a bad game but in single player terms it doesn't match Halo, no way.

In multiplayer terms it blows everything else this year out of the water.

the ****? The dvd was brilliant.

Anyone else give the marines some good weapons like the sniper rifle and rocket launcher? because unlike you, they get unlimited ammo. They're also pretty good shots - especially with rockets. Very important when approaching huge battles

Just one of the reasons i think its superior to Halo. Much more strategy involved

Please keep Halo 2 out of this. They're in two totally different leagues

Interesting bug I found last night....
When u first use the arbitar, kill your own team mates! This allows you to storm the facility and allow you to walk all the way to the lift, without encountering a single enemy

I mean..." sorry, since I HAVE TO advance, I have to kill you!'...the irony.
Of coz, since I managed to open the hangar door and let my friends in...all hell broke loose after that n the game resumed to normal.

Doesn't quite work on Lej with a cloaking time of like 5 seconds. :P

However, that does show off the design and strategy of the Arb on Lej, some of the areas seem perfectly-designed to allow you to slip by going from alcove to alcove cloaked (ie. Heretic lvl "Quietly now").

Yeah, I always use the ammo up until there's 1 left, then give them it :P
This is also the reason I prefer some parts of Halo 2 to Halo 1; the self-imposed mini-game of seeing if you can keep your marines alive is more rewarding knowing they can actually help you out this time with sniping and rockets rather than those useless ARs from the first game.

Played an awesome set of game last night with Thurrabred, Fuddle and I think Winkles from the forums, and the rest seemed to be Rllmuk dudes. Anyway

This game was a first to 100 Slayer, Beaver Creek. It was pure madness...but i won this one and on my stats it shows i didnt Checked the 2 matches previose and they were borked too. oh well, didnt expect that to happen.

Thurrabred was 2nd and Winkles was 3rd i believe in this particular match, stats pretty useless if they are wrong innit
