I have no problem with the camera, you can't see **** all but that's been the same in all the MGS games.

The problem is the lack of radar. I know there's a sonar and motion detector but they don't seem very effective. The radar showed you where everyone was and which way they were facing and whether they had been alerted.

If you're going to play a stealth game then the ability to scope out the surroundings easily is essential.

It worked great in MGS, MGS2 and Manhunt.

Please someone tell me that I'm missing something or that a radar will turn up soon. Otherwise I may have to give up on this mostly excellent game.

Apart from that loving the cut scenes, best and looooongest since Xenosaga.

The change to First Person when going through grass is pretty arbitrary though. What's the point? Just a pain in the arse as far as I can see and should be optional.

The whole game is alot more stealthy that any before it, plus in the 60's the type of radar you are use to seeing in the top corner of the screen in MGS and MGS2 hasn't been invented yet. You can scope out your enemys very easily via your range of sensors in your left side of your screen, moving the camera slightly with the right analog stick and clicking R3 to keep it in place, and also using teh first person mode..

And you to even mention manhunt in the same breath as the Metal Gear games.... well

I really should use the sensors more - I didn't use them at all in the first section. I suppose the game shoehorns you into using them at some point.

Yeah it does to some extent, like when your hiding in a tunnel or under a building, your view is hampered by being on your belly so you have to use them and try and work out the guards movements.

Does the sonar show people up as any particular kind of dot or colour?

To my knowledge they are just larger dots to animals

Just started playing this last night before i went to bed. Its pretty cool but im not sure if im playing it very stealthily.

I got spotted by the first guards you encounter and this inturn raised the alarm. Instead of running back through the map until the alarms stopped i just ran for it through the forest and over the bridge while trying to dodge the guards and a hail of bullets....anway i managed to do this all the way through the map to where sokalov is being held and as soon as hit the cutscene the alarms went away. YAy!

Can i use this method all the way through the game?

I thought you shouldn't be able to talk to Sokalov when the alarm is raised? In most places in MGS3 you can exploit the way the game lets you continue - in other words once you die and continue, the guards are back on patrol and don't know you're there. So you can run through a few difficult stages and then get killed at your destination, use continue and the chasing guards are gone. You'll spoil the game if you do that

Your right the alarm cancels the cutscene.. maybe he was on the second Evasion alarm..
By the way .. dont run through the game boshing it.. savour and enjoy the stealth action.. tigger

Started playing this last night on Hard, what a leap in diffuculty without the radar, makes you think about how to approach each area more so than previously.
Had troubles till I realised that the stealth walk was on the d-pad was trying it on the mushroom and was wondering why the guards could hear me walking on the analogue! >_< .
Seems to me if your wearing the wrong camoflaugue the guards vision extends very far!

                    Regarding

the stupid looking frogs, do you collect them? When I shoot them they make a stupid noise, but there always placed in such a way you can't get to them..

I like the idea of the stamina bar, food, curing etc, little cutscenes of snake eating the animals in the window ^_^,
but yeah the cut scenes are long! Not a game for when your in a rush, I thought I'd have a hour on this, looked at the clock 4 a.m!....?_?

I don't think you're meant to collect the stupid frogs, just to shoot them

Ah ok, shame I wanted to eat them ^_^.
Tried to kill Ocelot when you first meet him, Hideo wern't having it though, with his Time paradox

Yeah i was talking about the previous cutscene where you spy on where sokalov is being kept captive.

Yeah but i done the same thing when looking for sokalov, there are boxes outside Sokalovs so i hid there till it hit evasion mode. EAsy Peasy but like you say it might ruin the game.

                              Just finished the game...

Under 10 hours for first time through, and OMG.. what a game.. what a story.

I've just about got up to The Pain. Jolly good fun so far, although I was ripping my hair out at a couple of moments. Every time I tried CQC at first, Snake just slashed the air with his knife and alerted the guard - then I got used to it; human shields are fun

                                Also,

the bit where Ocelots men turn up and you have to take them out - every time I went near them to skuff I just got floored. I presume this is because they're just better soldiers than the normal grunts..

I don't mind the cutscenes, they are highly entertaining and the action is very well directed. I just wish they'd cram more of the plot into them so they didn't have to rely on 20 minute codec conversations.
