I prefer MGS2 (esp. the Substance edition) to Snake Eater as well. And I liked the way the Big Shell was a sun bleached, harsh environment.

    Raiden > Snake

Lol. Still, I loved MGS2 as well - it's a great game with an appalling story. Plus, the gameplay (if you skip the cutscenes and codecs) lasts about 3 hours tops. But I loved Big Shell too. And Raiden. Then again, I loved the ZOE games as well, so don't listen to me. Do, however, listen to my review. Coming soon!

Is all this praise for MGS2 a pisstake or what?

        Preferring MGS2 to MGS3?

MGS2 was big and certainly clever, but it felt like they got a totally different team to design the Big Shell from the ones who did the Tanker. Weak level design for the second part of that game and far too many codec sequences let it down. Cutscenes are fine, because they're fun to watch, but codec isn't, as they have taken that criticism on board with Snake Eater. MGS2 is good, I bone over it, but Snake Eater rips it to shreds in every department and I really don't see how anyone would prefer MGS2 over this.

The title screen of Snake Eater is better than MGS2

Heres someting that just had me smiling all day after I did it.

Equip the Colt SAA, go into FPV and rotate the right stick. Beautiful!

I really am slugging my way through this game, it's like I've never played an MGS game before. I've done possibly five areas now where I haven't been spotted, and I have slaughtered practically everyone I've seen so far.

Up to the fight with Boss now, couldn't sit through an hours worth of cutscene last night. It's certainly a beautiful looking battle though. Why've they made it so that you don't actually want to kill the last boss again? I don't think anyone wanted to off Solidus in MGS2 when they realised his intentions were honourable. And so at the end, the Boss stops being an uber-bitch and shows a bit of humanity (and cleavage - what is it with these games and the flesh shows?) and yet she still insists on dying. Possibly to make us feel the same way as Snake.

What a pain in the rump that part is when you have to keep feeding EVA (why the capitals anyway?).

The custcenes are cool anyway, Kojima would make a superb action director even if his stories are a little bit whack. MGS2 wasn't a bad game at all, people are lying to themselves if they think that. Sure the story was bollocks and the codecs were ludicrous, but the game had so many subtleties that it really tied it all together.

I am now quite a way in to my 3rd outing.. I just can't seem to get enough of this, which is very rare that a game captures my attention for so long. Like DMC.. Everytime it ends i just need to go through it all again.. and i realy am getting some areas down... snake style..

Does anyone know if the frog total is cumulative, or do you have to pop them all in the same session?

I heard it's cumulative - that is if you do some on one play through you won't need to do the same ones next time!

I don't know for sure as I've not started my second play through but as I say it's what I heard!

Does anyone have the Japanese version? Is it in English at all, menu and gameplay wise?

I don't think it's out in Japan. GameFAQs and PA have it down as the 16th December.

The JPN versions don't have any English in normally.

Where are you supposed to use the cardboard boxes, and why? I "wore" one and sat in the back of a truck but nothing happened.

I haven't been transported around in them, like in the first and second games, but you can hide in them in the urban areas still, for regular cover.

                                Damn!

                                Also,

is there any way of actually defeating The Sorrow, or is it simply a case of walking forwards for five minutes?
