I'm disappointed with it at times but at others I love it!

The controls I don't know what to make of. I couldn't get on with digital so I'm sticking with touchpad. I *am* getting the hang of it but like a fool I played Mario 64 on my N64 to completion last week so my brain's fighting the lack of resistance.

The additional maps and minigames are a great addition though and any excuse to play such an amazing game to completion again is fine by me...

Even if it does feel like I'm playing it after doing a skydive and have lost all sense of direction.

Have to say that is the weirdest comment I've heard in a long time.

I know Mario 64 wasn't the ideal launch game, - an all new Mario game would of course have been better, but at least there's some innovative stuff in there with all the mini games. And Feel The Magic shows the potential of DS.

Seems to me you should have thought more about what you wanted before you spashed out. DS is mostly about innovation, you seem to want the same old PSX stuff on a tiny screen.

This really isnt the place for it either. Try the DS review thread. This is for Mario

No. It feels different from your normal console and handheld with it`s touch screen abilities and feels great to interact with games this way. Mario 64 might not be the best game to show the capabilities of the machine but the mini games show a glimps of what can be achieved with it interaction wise. Ridge racer might look great on the psp but at the end of the day it`s nothing new and what we haven`t played on our consoles a thousand times already. The DS has all the tools in place to offer something new and exciting and can offer a different experience to what we are already playing on our consoles. The psp i`m afraid only offers more of the same of what we are already playing on our consoles.

Very clever. Also Enjoying the slingshot games which make good use of the touch screen and dual screens. Luigi card games are fun but but theres not alot to them really with the ones i`ve unlocked upto yet. But there`s definately a vast range of mini games in there to suit most though.
Agree with you there Hodge, the slingshot game is well fun. Love the sound as the sling draws back too! The luigi card games are cool too, though I've unlocked the roulette table, thats just not as fun.

Wario's got some cool mini games, unlocking Wario was surprisingly hard I thought. Can't wait to unlock the 5th character, obviously Peach though yeah?

Can I say again, the music is awesome in the game. How it should be done.

Been playing this most the day now and I've finally got the hang of the virtual analogue stick. I kept trying to move my thumb all the way accross the screen for the first half an hour, alls well now though. I rushed through the first 3 stars so I could get to my favourite stage (music wise and game wise) Jolly Roger Bay As soon as the music started playing I just fell back in love with the game all over again although for some reason the eel based stars felt a bit easier than I remember them...

Anyhow as everyone has been saying the minigames are really quite addictive as is hunting down the rabbits to unlock them! I reckon out of the ones I've unlocked so far its a tie between the shy guy one where you have to keep the three marios in the air and the Bob-omb catapault one for my fave. Also has anyone actually managed to reach the end of that snowball rolling one?? I just keep bashing into the rocks near the end!

Why is my comment so strange? Are you saying that its wrong to be disappointed with the console?

Yes the console is innovative, but what is the point if it doesn't really improve the gaming experience?

I hope the console does become a worthwhile part of my collection, but at this stage I do feel disappointed with the overall feel of it. As far as your comment regarding my desire for the PSP goes let me flip it round at you. You seem to want the old N64 stuff on a tiny screen. Is that a valid comment?

Strange because you must have known what you would get with DS, it wasn't really an unknown quantity.

I don't want N64 games on a tiny screen, that's why I said Mario 64 was not an ideal launch title. What I want are new DS specific games, and the Mario 64 mini-games are a hint of what is to come.

DS brings new things to the table, that's why I and many others like it. PSP is quite the opposite.

Ok yes it does but its still same old same old isnt it? PS2 games cut down and played on a portable. I'm only slightly interested in it because I dont have a PS2 and have never played any PS2 games so PSP = WIN

Don't you think that's a bit premature though before you can make that judgement?

Be fair, the DS is out and the PSP isn't. Personally, I don't think it's fair to making any safe-bet assumptions until both platforms have sufficient software and utilities to properly contrast and compare. If you feel the need.

Concept, you are right there. Each need time but people were on Nintendos back about the DS before its been released. I'm not on the PSPs back I'm just saying what I think of it. You know I'll probably end up getting one. Such is life.

I can't think of anything new.

I already have a PS2, so no interest to play much the same games in exactly the same way on a screen a fraction of the size.

can i just ask what conrol method people are using for this? I really want to use the touch screen but either i need to practice with it more or just stick to the slightly clunkier d pad, it feels intuitive but for the split second when you have to move your thumb (strap) then you lose control of Mario just for a split second, ah well. Anwyay, i guess what im asking is, what is the most popular set up?

Try using the dual-handed mode with the stylus - works really well IMO.
