I noticed a new music track whilst playing this the other night.

Mushroom Kingdom II. I'm assuming it was unlocked when I got the Team Peach Car. I can't remember if it was in RR64 or not though.

Not noticed that one yet but will keep eye out for it. MP3 rips would be nice :-)

Cheers, DaveK22. Poor quality movie, but the game looks good. I am worried about dodgy collision detection, though. Looking forward to reading some 'proper' reviews, tbh.
Ridge Racer Ds is in the same issue as Ridge Racers, (the first issue in January).

Having now played some 3d DS games, the "engine" has a certain style to it that doesn't translate very well at all to direct feed videos. Theres something about it thats unique, in the same way as me playing Doom on my SX1, must be the screen, or portability of it....

Some of the tracks are a bit weak, but Gunn Runners is probably one the best racing game tracks ever. I'd forgetting how good the RR64 soundtrack was.

I'm still really loving the game, which is surprising because I really wasn't expecting to. It looked really ropey in the previews, and having played Ridge Racers, I didn't think RRDS would really compare. It looks a lot nicer in real life, though, and the old-style Ridge Racer handling is still great fun.

I'm on the final Expert level at the moment, and it's started to get a bit tricky.

I tried the touch pad control again last night, but I still can't get on with it. Dpad is much easier. At least, it is in the in-car mode. I had trouble with it in the external view when I gave that a try.

Yeah I have noticed that too, Mario looks miles better in reality. I think screenshots dont seem to do the system justice either. Mario looks really blocky in the grabs I have seen in mags and online. The LCD smooths things over a bit when its in motion on the actual DS screen.

I could never play any of the RR games in external, the whole handling mechanics are suited to in car view. I am trying to remember if the arcade original even had an outside view and if it was originated on the PS1 version. Anyone remember?

                    Hmm that doesnt surprise me...

Just checked out those movies and I thought it looked pretty cool. Obviously ridge racers craps all over it looks wise but anyone got any gameplay comparisons between the 2?

Ouch. Less than 5 thats harsh.

He's talking about Asphalt, not RR DS you realise, yeah?

                            Same here.

However, I wouldnt be surprised if RRDS still gets a pretty low score from the mag.

Id say a 7 would be about right.
