I seem to remember RR64 being rock towards the end - where to unlock the best cars you had to use your mirror to bump them away when they tried to overtake... come to think of it - WTF was that about. Ridiculous :/

Just got this along with my DS yesterday ad to say I am impressd sould be a horrific understatement. This game rocks bells... as a handheld experience!! What you get for the price is mindblowing, plenty of tracks and cars.
Sinlge player career works sweet. Compete in GrandPrix, with 3 races to win a trophy. Get first in each and you unlock the car attack for those tracks. Car attack gets you the new cars once you challenge and beat them. This little path to glory works brilliant and has me hooked... I want all cars and tracks unlocked
When played with the internal view (no car on screen) the collision detection issues are gone. The games run so well, with a nice smooth frame rate, no stuttering detected at any points so far.
Bearing in mind this is one of the first titles on the machine I am delighted with the DS. It is gonna be a great little machine, the Mario franchises really raising the bar on it. Ridge Racer DS is a great showcase for the start of the DS machine and is a joy to play.
Have opted for the D ad control as either of the touch screen options are a bit wooly for a driving game. As you need to be pin point with your turning it may take a lot of practice to sue it with Ridge Racer. D pad works great. Think the touch screen ability will be more utilised in other games like Metroid, etc.
Overall, Ridge Racer is a great little game to play and has made me so happy with my DS purchase. Great fun and so easy to get into to. Merry Christmas
Cant wait for the multi player hook up!

I don't think its been mentioned in this post: In single cart download multiplayer, you can choose any of the courses you've completed in single player mode, but you can only race using the 6 cars from the get go, not matter if you have loads of other cars unlocked.
Also, a really annoying thing about it is, everyone has to shut the system down and redownload if you want to choose another track to play as. NST should have done better regarding that.

Trying to do Ridge Racer Extreme courses...
There's this blue/green car that overtakes you the moment you take ONE crash.
You can finish the course fine if your jedi reflexes are up to scratch, but if you can't see into the future, wield lightsabers and make lightning come out of your palm, you've got no chance.

I just managed to do the first extreme race last night.
Jedi Skills are really only required on the last lap, if you have managed to get into 2nd place on the first 5 that is. =P
The blue/green car is a pain in the ass, but its possible to win if you do not crash more than one or two bumps on the last lap.
Mirrored extreme is just silly so far ... ^_^
And talking about ****ty AI, the unlockable car-race on the extreme track is too wierd.
The car STANDS STILL at the starting point when the race starts, then passes you about halfway into the first lap, then STANDS STILL just after the starting point on the second lap, making you get the lead, and then it just races your ass off for the next laps ...
And when youre saying that the AI is wierd, do you mean the "omg i got hit in the ass my car came to a DEAD STOP" thingy ?
Insanely fun game though.
Now i want a PSP just to play RR on it ...

I know EXACTLY what you mean mate!! Was playin this non stop till Mario arrived, but am gonna fire it up againt today to get it finished. Got one reverse track to do and then the exteme tracks. The final reverse track of Revolution is insane, not the track, the car that wins. I think Anakin Skywalker is driving that ****er!! So good though, really love the game and I have put more time into this than any other driving game since Project gotham, first class!!
As you said to complete everything this game has to offer, you have to exhibit extreme Jedi skills... it is mental, but so good when you ge that win

Originally posted by Oh! My Car!yeah, like I said "WTF is that about. Ridiculous :/" and it is...that was in RR64 too though so it's not AI, it just them being bitches :|
Remember the angel and devil cars? They did that very same thing. Because they were so fast, every now and then they waited on the side of the road for you to pass.
