I'm not sure if the JPN warranty is valid for non japanese residents -given the unit is meant for domestic sale only.

And your console swap trick will only work if they dont't check the box contents and note that its a JPNese unit with a very different serial number. I think it also falls under the notion of theft. And when they send the unit back to SONY....

True. But then send it back to some crappy "catalogue" company who dont have a clue and they probably wont even be able to tell Sony who returned it anyway.

I got mines and god is this thing the dogs nuts, by far the best console released in years and a pure joy to screech round those ridge courses in widescreen with gorgeous graphics(yes I am a whore to the psp).I haven't touched my ds since it arrived and already the ds feels cheap and tacky next to this, not that I do not like the DS, I do, it's just this is in awhole different league, like comparing a stand up arcade cabinet from the 90's to the full sit in millenium job, which is no bad thing. The Ds for me will now be a novelty compared to this, as to me this is the future of gaming.I really haven't been so excited about something since the Nintendo 64 arrived, this is just so amaxing in the flesh. My unit had no dead pixels, no squeaky d pad, no clicky square button, and no clicky r button, it honestlt feels very solid and is definetly the Sharp screen if the made in japan rumour is true, and I can view this screen from any angle. It really is so beautifully bright when watching movis or playing games, I've not even got as bright and clear a screen on my mini lcd sharp tv or my portable dvd player.Sony have shown the way forward, now let's hope my optimism can continue with superb software, but with Acid, Minna, Ridge, Lumines, Ape escape, wipeout, GTa, and online gaming in march, and Vampire, this console is rocking like a metallica concert!!!

My opinion...nine out of ten, and ten if it continues this superb momentum.

How are people doing with dead pixels?

Mine turns up next week along with Ridge + Vamp. My only concern is dead pixels, Greg's got 5!!

Anyone played Vampire on it? How's it control with the button layout?

My god if it handles 'OK' at least, it should easily be able to perform 3rd Strike!!

What games are planned for this though? I've heard nothing that gets me super excited. Don't know why I bought it really, probably just for RR!

weird that as i'm playing the ds more i reckon

dont get me wrong the graphics on teh psp are lush, but it feels fragile and the games on it no matter how much better they look play just the same

ridge vs ridge, slightly differing game on each system but both are good

but catch touch yoshi has kept me away from the psp now

and hopefully crystal drive will just be as much fun

Aye hold the volume buttons down, the volume bar wont appear like it does in the psp menu screen, you just have to guess what level its al.

As for what people have said about the DS stealing their attention I couldnt agree more, I have had a slight change of heart now that I have actualy seen and used a DS. I cant wait for mine to arrive now, and from what I have seen they have alot more potential as a fun handheld games machine than the psp.

The PSP is a slick, hella cool gadget, the graphic capabilities are top notch, ridgeracer owns bigtime, and I can watch the latest episodes of Naruto on it. However as far as fun and games goes the DS gets my vote, its just so much fun to use, and you dont have to feel like a tit as you slowly and carefully get it out like its a 10,000 year old ancient artifact that could crumble at any second, and then polishing it every other minuite! (I know thats not what I said 2 pages ago, change of heart)

At the moment the PSP to me, is just like any other games console, maybee in the next 2 years my favour will swing back over to the PSP side as more and better games get released, but untill then the DS is has got the majority of my attention.

In reference to people comments on the DS winning peoples time, I don't think Mr Public will be in such a privelaged position as to be able to own and expereince both consoles side by side. IMO this round will be a marketeers dream, won and lost by suits and advertising cheques.

Sorry, I'm not meaning to go too OT. My psp should be here soon, and I will post something of worth then.

My Psp arrived on monday from audio cubes, and doesn't seem to have any dead or stuck pixels, I havent been able to play a game on it yet, but I changed the month to see all the different coloured backdrops, and couldn't notice any problems.
It is a nice bit of kit definitely.
