I have the gamecube version, I have no idea if the PS2 version worth getting or not if you already have it, but I just found out that its only 17.99 at play for the limited edition, so i ordered it anyway.

Can someone please fill me in on what the point of Assignment Ada is? It has nothing to do with the storyline of the game, right? Just a bonus mission of some sort? I found it pretty boring I must say... especially when there's Seperate Ways to entertain instead.

Yeah its just a bonus mission, its not spectacular but I found it fun, I mean it plays the same as the rest of the game so not much to complain about really. The gamecube version didnt have Seperate Ways though of course so it probabaly seemed like a better extra there.

Got the PS2 version today, I'm just into the second chapter, so far I'm not really as impressed with the conversion as a lot of people seem to be, it looks a lot worse than the Gamecube version to me really... although having said that I was probabaly just expecting too much after reading about how good the port was.

I'm looking forward to Seperate Ways anyhow... how long is it by the way? and also, whats this new laser weapon thing like? and is it in the main game or do i have to unlock it?

Dunno about the laser gun... I beat the game a couple days back, but didn't unlock it. Maybe it unlocks the second time through, or on professional mode or something. Speaking of which, is professional mode just a harder difficulty?

With regard to seperate ways, there's 5 missions... it took me roughly 4.5 hours to complete them all. I think it's quite interesting as it does fill you in on some of the story, but it could have been a bit better I think. More cutscenes, bit more depth (story-wise at least) and less recycled environments. I mean, there are cases where Ada goes through the exact same spots as does Leon, which makes it less exciting since you feel like you've already been there.

Definitely don't think they should have resurrected Krauser for the battle with Ada in the final mission... that seemed a bit pointless to me, especially since there's no dialogue from the guy which makes him seem all the more recycled.

All in all, Seperate Ways is a nice addition I think, but I like playing with Leon more... Ada is simply too weak. Although her fan kick is nice.

Yes professional mode is a harder difficulty, in fact its a lot harder, less ammo laying around and the enemies take more shots to kill, think you might take more damage too but not sure about that.

The laser gun could be unlocked on the second play through then, the cube version had a few extra weapons but you had to buy them from the dealer guy, so it's probabaly the same for this one too.

Even if it could have been better 4.5 hours is pretty good for an extra so deffinitley makes me glad I got this version even though i already had the game. One thing I have noticed though in this version is that it has been made slightly harder (so god knows what professional mode is like here). I'm pretty sure dead bodies are leaving more random ammo boxes, but I'm also quite sure that the enemies are harder to kill than in the gamecube one. I could be just imagining things, but i have played the original version a lot so i doubt it.

I bought this when it came out for the GC, but finally got to play this over Xmas with my fifteen year old nephew (taking turns if the Leon died or in-between chapters sections). All I can say is WOW!. This game is amazing. The new viewpoint and control method are spot on (though the menus are still a throwback to the earlier games in the series). The gfx are simply awesome. Who'd have thought the little purple box I bought for 50 quid could do that. I can't imagine if there had been an Xbox version, that the gfx would have been much better.

Talk about tension! My nephew and I were playing quite late and the atmosphere of this game seeped out of the monitor and into the living room that night, we were both on the edge of our seats and I think the quieter parts of the game (like when you revisit the village to find the tunnel) turned the psychological screws tighter than the parts where there were lots of villagers attacking you.

Anyway, loved it so far. I am as far as the bit near the water after the church and there was a letter about a lake or something. Really gripping.

Do you get anything else from the trader if you get all 15 blue coins?

              Rock on, Capcom!

                You get a

                Blacktail handgun

I think, which is quite good.

You have so not even scratched the surface with this mate. The amount of jaw dropping and heart pounding moments you have still to come with leave you in tatters

Make sure to get all 15 medallions though. You will then get the weapon off the trader that has been upgraded a Level: Make more money when you flog it!

Me and my mate were playing this on his PS2 last week, he was stuck at the bit where you [spoiler]take either of the two paths to the big giant thing or the chain saw ladies and he couldn do it so I offered to help, all was done easily and then onto the boss after it, the guy who mutates when the fire hits him and hangs around the rafters of the farmhouse building. Cant remember the name of anyone since i havent actually played through the game since early last year!

But it was so much fun to play it again, might stick it on soon and complete it again cause it really is ace, cant wait for Resi 5 on the next-gen machines, will truly rock so much!

Also, my mate thought that after killing that boss, the game was over!!! Not even half way through!

He is the village chief, I like that boss battle.

I played upto that part again recently with the "handcannon". The boss battle was over very quickly!

I just found it a bit clunky. Yes i finished the game with it (and both Ada mini games), but right at the end i still felt like i wasnt fully in control of this character thats meant to be a super-cop.

I mean i see him jump walls and up/down rooftops, dodge roll and so on in cutscenes, but i cant strafe from the side of a corner and back again to avoid return fire. Maybe the intention was to avoid Quake-like FPS run and gunning, but reduced speed strafing as an option wouldnt have been that difficult.

I enjoyed the game but it really does have flaws which i thought would have been eliminated from the feedback and given how many games have been done.

Well with resident evil 4 my gripe was with the control system

When you see the very smart mercenaries playthrough by good players.I always get the impression while there very good the control system is limiting them.

When you have 7 enemys approaching and they close you do a quick turn it feels like it takes ages.

Still really its nothing that spoils the game

Still think the dodge function that was in resi evil 3 would have been very welcome here

Okay, got some spare time at last from sorting things out after the move (after two months, nearly!) and got my VGA cable (thanks, Ince!) and loaded up this gem.

I set it all up (with my new [to me] RE4 cube I picked up from Ebay for 22 quid!), intending to go to bed and play the next evening.... Best intentions, I suppose, 'cos I was still there two and a half hours later, and Mardigan you were not kidding!

                            Okay, so I did the

the lake creature (took me a while to figure out how not to get knocked out of the after it dives)

                            and then ran into those

wolves, which serves me right for wandering off

                            and then, WOW!

                            El Gigante

, what an epic battle that was. Had to power off after that, my heart was racing and it was 3am Sunday morning (which is a bit late if you have young kids, trust me).

                            Still loving it.

I haven't touched this since I finished it which must've been like a year ago now - Time to dust it down and remind myself why the wee purple cube is such an amazing piece of kit

Somewhat belatedly, finished this game last night.

Did anyone notice that, in speech just before you murderize him, irritating Spanish midget Salazar calls your man "Meester CHARLES Kennedy".

Did I miss something, is this an error, or is it a reference to our late, great drunken LibDem leader?
