    Well, I'm not really feeling it at the moment. Two hours in, up to that giant Alligator thing in the lake. Is it me, or is it just shoot, move to the next area, shoot, repeat? No puzzles to speak of, good atmosphere, but not really very 'Resi' (I haven't been scared once, and the tension is draining away the more I play). And bear in mind i'm a huge Resi fan.

    So far, I feel it's a good enough shooting game with great gfx, but it lacks the element of fear the other games had, in my opinion, and the level design (as very little is locked to you, and it's all linear) is bland, at least up till now.

    One question: how do you do a suplex? Tried lots of things, can't do it.

      I?m comfortably within the 2nd disk now.

      Once again the game is throwing everything it can at the player. The attention to detail within some of the rooms I just visited is astounding. Also ran into another new foe who?erm? is pretty hideous. *once again is tingling with the temptations to describe what is racing through his head. How he sat motionless for a few moments trying to take in the genius behind the hideously awesome character design, some outstanding animation and feelings of dread beyond believe?*

      I?ve only been using 3 weapons throughout so am looking forward to experimenting with the others during further plays (obviously I used the earlier weapons because I had to, but? since I got the three below ive been focusing on upgrading) I have?

      A pistol ? Blacktail:
      Firepower = 3.0 (max). Firing Speed = 0.40 (1 to max). Reload Speed = 0.83 (max). Capacity = 25 (2 to max)

      A shotgun ? Striker:
      Firepower = 10.0 (1 to max). Firing Speed = 0.70 (max). Reload Speed = 1.50 (max). Capacity = 14 (4 to max)

      And finally my favourite and most used gun in the game?

      A rifle ? semi-auto
      Firepower = 11.0 (2 to max). Firing Speed = 1.43 (max). Reload Speed = 1.33 (max). Capacity = 14 (3 to max)

      I love the weapons in the game. They all look very slick and feel/sound satisfyingly meaty.

      As for the controls?

      I honestly cant see a single reason how anyone could have a problem with them. I played Remake earlier and I couldn?t even walk straight and turned it off in frustration. That is coming from someone who used to think they were fine. Now, due to the ease of RE4 controls, I cant use them (tho if I were bothered I would learn to cope again?)

      *plays RE4 for a few moments. Walks Leon around. Runs. Stops. Aims. Quickly turns 180 degrees and continues to run*

      *blinks*

      Nope, sorry? I don?t understand the complaints concerning the controls o_0

      Heh, right, well, back to it!

      Oh, and Mr Treble? things become more ?resi? ? a lot more resi, later on. Though it Is still very much its own type of resi? if that makes sense.

          My sentiments EXACTLY. The control in the game just feels spot on. And Treble there are definite Resident Evil moments up ahead, even before the games first 'heart leap right out of chest' moment it has some jaw dropping moments. The first two bosses are obvious standouts, the second boss especially.

          I defeated the second boss without even knowing you could jump up his back, I just used the pistol from distance with some shotgun action on the tentacle thingy.

          Once/if I eventually complete the game, I'm going through it again definitely. Not just to experience it again though, but more to erase my(so far) woefull performance. It's almost depressing how many times I've died

            How good is this game and I have barely even scratched the surface (upto the merchant on 1-3 where you can get a new pistol if certain criteria have been met).

            I am taking my time with this one and my save file proves it (over 3 hours so far, although some of that time is making drinks etc as I played from 7.30 pm till 11pm ish)

            Struggling with shotgun ammo though, but have plenty of handgun ammo. Really need to find some more ammo as the shotgun is ace.

            Had my head removed by the first chainsaw weilding guy I met (how ace is that ) and been crushed by falling boulders (teaches me for not paying proper attention in a cut scene)

            I want to go and play some more now but I know I wont be able to turn it off until the early hours (not good when you have to go to work the next day)

            Definately a game of the year contender as far as I am concerned.

            Can't wait to play some more tomorrow evening and battle some of the bosses.

            I am in

              Definitely going to play it through. Once the ball's rolling in threads like this, though, sometimes it's hard to see any objectivity. I'm surprised people are so over the moon about it, tbh. It's Silent Hill's visuals with Resi's play mechanic so far, and improved aiming. A strange mix and a good one, but not very Resi so far, and about as deep as a puddle.

                Received mine today

                Didnt get off to a great start, expected the usual ammo shortage, so did the first village area using the knife only

                Now theres more ammo than i can carry (at 1-3 atm) and loving it.

                  To save ammo (when there aren't too many enemies around):

                  Shoot in face -> run forward -> kick -> slash with knife on floor

                    Maybe people are just really enjoying it? I certainly haven't had this much fun playing a game since I first played Halo a couple of years back.

                    I'm not bothered that people aren't looking for petty little flaws which end up blown out of all proportion on messageboards.

                      ....or when something's popularity gets blown out of all proportion...?
                      Anyway, too early to tell. And don't take that aggressive tone with me, young man

                        I know you're messing Treb, but the man has a point. When do we ever get to see so many people enjoying something and NOT moaning about it? It rarely happens, this is as good as it gets here.

                        Like you say, each to their own. I'm loving it (ba-da-ba-ba-baaaa)!

                          It's not better than the Biohazard remake so far but then that's one of my favourite games from the last few years.

                          Btw - what do you think of the dreadful 'codec' bits in RE4? Doesn't really help to add to the isolation you should be feeling... At least they're short

                            Shame you reminded me, tbh.

                                I've only played the demo at a nintendo event in Amsterdam last year, but I really loved it. It's great to finally see a real evolution in the series. From RE1 onward, there have always been small tweaks and other incignificant gameplay changes. It's still intens and has some great shockeffects, I freaked out about 3 times in a 30 minute playsession, which people found rather funny, but then I have a nack for getting laughed at during these events. Two years ago a woman and her 2 children were laughing at me when me and a friend were playing Eyetoy at ECTS.
