They are bloody good, but I can't help thinking that the Res Evil team has been greatly influenced by the MGS direction, something about the feel of the game that goes along with the Codecs and slow-mo/stylised fighting in the cutscenes.

Hey, has anyone played this game on a traditional 4:3 format non widescreen tv?, wondered what the border situation is like in that case as my gaming tv in my room is a 21' inch 4:3 format. thanks

Resident Evil 4 has proved to be one of the most fun, enjoyable, unpredictably exciting, tense and atmospheric games with tones of diversity that i?ve played for years. ?Fun? however is the most important there though imo.

What you?ve just said can be applied to any game if you?re not prepared to put a little imagination and enthusiasm into your time with the title. In Metal Gear Solid you could very easily go through the game running past enemies without taking the time and effort to play around with the game?s mechanisms ? ultimately the experience would become very monotonous very quickly.

Sure thing, you could play through Resident Evil 4 simply running to one exotic, beautiful location to the next, thoughtlessly shooting every foe that comes your direction? or? you could allow yourself to be absorbed by the atmosphere, taking time and consideration with how you dispatch the foes (Or panic like hell frankly trying to destroy a crowd of the buggers. It isnt merely just shooting at some villagers or whatever foe the game throws at you, but rather trying to fight for your survival - so to speak). Different enemies require different methods to be killed, some for example can?t be killed with head shots, others requires specialized equipment to kill and weak spots to obliterate?

I respect you hole heartedly Mr Treble sir, you know that. Though I cant help but feel you are being unfairly mellow towards RE4? heh. I?m glad you?re ?sticking with it? because there is a quality, quality title here with lots to offer ^_^

Have just survived the villagers attacking the house with Luis, the girl upstairs, and am currently stuck on either route that you take from there!

Anyone got this far yet? Don't want to read back and spoil any of the game?

The route is completely your choice. Left leads to one set of angry foes waiting for you (and made me panic like hell at one point *gulps*) and right leads to another foe that awaits...

On the note that describes the two separate routes there are small photos. These are kinda little teasers of what to expect (though they are very vague)

There is a save point just before... so you could always go one way, see how it goes - and then restart and try the other

I'm up to that point myself, actually taken one of the routes so am a tiny bit ahead. My health is a bit lacking though and I've got to fight my way through some folk to find somemore. Tough times ahead I guess.

Anyway yeah, that fight was great. Straight out of LA Confidential(thinking of the film here), Luis proved he could handle himself that's for sure. Felt like it was over way too soon, but brilliant while it lasted.

I'm worried though, this feels really far, and i've only played it this evening...is this game going to be dangerously short? In an ideal world i wouldn't even be a third through i guess...

You're just about 1/4 through from what I've heard.

I've been playing for over 18hours and on chapter 5-3.

Not too sure how many chapters there are though... i'm probably nearing the end. But i've missed loads of treasure, havent collected the special items from the Shooting Gallary or upgraded all the weapons. Hopefully they'll be more difficulty settings to re-play with

There must be, if you look on your save file it says 'Normal' at the end, so I expect there's a hard mode
