Loving this game, just on mission 9! Bloody boss is doing my head in!! I hate having to do some of the levels over if you die but hey thats life. I keep playing level 2 over and over to try and S Rank it! That helps for building up red orbs thou to buy power ups

wicked game, after completing resi 4 this is the perfect follow on..... GT4 next!

Yep...after VJ2, then Onimusha 3, then RE4 and now this - Capcom are just unstoppable, IMO. I can't think of any other developer who has made so many consistently excellent releases

I'm really enjoying DMC3 so far. I thought it would be a letdown after RE4 (because I expected everything to be a letdown after RE4 tbh) but this is just superb. The way the combat works around the way you want it to work is just above and beyond everything else. The cutscenes are fantastic and I just love the feel of the game. I'm still playing Gunslinger but I think I should move over to Swordmaster soonish.

I've just unlocked Nevan but haven't started the next mission yet...looks like fun though

If you boys aint yet... you have to get into Royal Guard!! Not as showboaty as Gunslinger or Swordmaster but it makes Dante powerful beyond belief when you nail the parrys!! I done Mission 3 boss again, Cerberus, using Royal Guard and absolutley annihilated him!! Parrying his claw swipes, blocking his ice attacks and parrying his head charges, hehehe!! He had nothing on me!! Mind you I have am up to Mission 10 and have been replaying early levels a lot to get upgraded so it was kinda unfair on the big guy

Royal Guard is the way forward, ****en kick ass!!

When she's walking towards you, back off and jump until she stops then hit her with E&I or a Stinger attack.

When she does that, stay away and rattle as many E&I bullets into her as possible!! It takes a few cycles of this attack but it is a sure fire way of not getting your health drained... using a cheeky Air Hike will help you stay away aswell!!

The problem with bosses is players rush in for the kill and get slaughtered. To defeat a boss you have to wait for the right moment... dodge and stay at range until the safest moment then get the money shots in. If you are patient with her and know how and when to dodge her attacks she is pretty straight forward!! Each boss battle must be disected into its sequence of attack patternsm hehehe!! Love this game so much... how it demands discipline and rewards a skilled Dante.

When playing earlier levels, treat each hit you take like a sin it... must... not... happen!!

I just spent 1/2 an hour wandering around Mission 5 not knowing what to do. I think I've been spoilt by 3rd person games like RE4 and MGS3, both of which are so linear, you are never in doubt as to what you have to do next.

Anyway, apart from that, everything else has been awesome so far.

Good advice about the boss. That's how I took care of her. It took a while but, dammit, this game's boss fights are so damn fair that you can never really feel cheated. Every attack of hers has an audio and visual cue...if you miss it, it's your fault. When I took her out the second time, I only got hit twice because I dodged every single attack. I heard the cues, rolled out the way and attacked. It worked like a charm

Damn right I keep going back to stage one and rinsing it over and over again. Half the fun of this game is seeing how much you can improve yourself. I can now get an S rank on that stage...first time I played it, I got a B iirc

Played it for about two hours the day I got it, now its sitting under GT4, KOTOR 2, MGS3 and Metroid Prime of which I have completed two already. Its good but its almost exactly the same as DMC and the new styles just don't add anything to it for me as the majority of the game I have just ran around using my same old, hack em in the air and blow the crap out of them. Although I do like the fact that you can now blow them away with a quick L2 tap to a shotgun after you have held them up in the air for the maximum time with the pistols. I will probably complete it but its not going to be anytime soon.

New styles dont add anything??? You sure you didnt pop DMC2 in the drive??? IMO the Styles are the core of the game, they ARE the game, allowing you to fight the way that suits you best or that gives you the greatest advantage. With practice, each one is amazingly powerful and can change the entire experience of the game. The styles add so much depth to the game that multiple play throughs is essential to see just exactly what Dante is capable of.

IMO, each one must be fully upgraded, explored and mastered before this can be put to bed. Only then will the likes of Dante Must Die mode be possible.

To be honest I didn't use it once. I might give it a go at some point, but I never found any situation where I thought "I should be using that particular gun right now".

E&I own every other gun in the game.

Agreed, but this gun actually some great uses. For example... the Red Demon birds that turn to stone when you shoot the several times (and IMO are one of the most annoying enemies in the game) can be stoned in one shot with this thing, making the fights with them a lot easier!! It is uber powerful when levelled up but as you say, with E&I maxed out there really is little use for other firearms
