    Burnout 4 Revenge Demo

Upon loading this what hit me initially was that there has been a step up in graphical quality, the car you drive in particular is nicely rendered and now is extremely 'shiny', whilst background detail would seem to of been improved somewhat also. Next was the immediacy of the handling of the car, it seems even tighter than before, and as such I felt much more 'at one' with the car itself. Other nice effects like the rough shaking of the screen as you hit the boost, and the flurry of particle effects when you clip an opponent also standout.

Its only one track, but theres a lot to do here with numerous ramps, jumps crossroads and alternate/hidden routes to choose from, its notable that this is one of the better designed racing tracks Ive seen and as a taster for the full game it more than does the job.

Traffic can be used to pile into your opponents, and for the most part your car is able to smash its way right through the various vehicles in the demo, only meeting its match when you are unfortunate enough to ram into a HGV or the like. Creaming yourself into an oncoming vehicle or wall, in true Burnout style, switches to the crashmode cam where you can influence aftertouch like before, now you have the option of doing additional damage by effectively igniting your car which allows for additional impact time for you to use more aftertouch.

Ive had a handful of goes and am loving it so far, again the track design means theres a lot of gameplay here despite being just the one track. A sure-fire crowd-pleaser.

Hopefully the Live deal will be better implemented this time.

I can't wait for this one. I've loved all the Burnout games so far. The last one's only flaw was that it was too easy. Other than that, while it lasted, I was hooked like a crack addict.

have played it a few times myself, looks very nice, a lot like BO3 really hope they get the live side right this time as that was a real let down for me in BO3.

whats the release date for this?

Is it still coming to XB360?

I don't think Criterion/ EA have ever officially announced it for the 360 & they seem keen to downplay it at the moment.

No doubt it is in the pipeline and will appear towards the end of the year though. However, they probably won't announce it for a bit to avoid any adverse impact on sales of the Xbox (& PS2) versions in September or the upcoming 360 version of NFSU.

Ooh, looking forward to this. Clocked up masses of time on BO3 when it came out - hadn't quite pounded a game that thoroughly before.

Don't think I'll bother waiting for the 360 version then as the Xbox version of Burnout 3 looked pretty impressive and Revenge should improve on that already. Revenge 360 will prolly be more expensive also. They should release them at the same time IMO.

Maybe it is just me, but Burnout has not been the same since the second outing, which I loved very much. All the 'Takedown' malarky and the difficulity level was easy to complete Burnout 3 until you reach the 90% mark where the awful F1 cars are avaliable to race - too fast, too twitchy and unfair AI.

Since EA has come onto Criterion, the series has gone downhill in my opinion, despite the developers aiming for the change in gameplay before EA bought them out.

                        You won't like Revenge then.

Me too. The only way the third one improved on its predecessor was the Crash Mode. The racing and the level design was so much better in Burnout 2. Sad.

Where is the demo available from? Some magazine or something?

Burnout 3 was immense, really enjoyed it, might put it on today actually and try to finish it.
