    Burnout Legends

Played this for an hour or so at work today and it's pretty much Burnout 3 but with tracks from 1 & 2 added for good measure, as in Burnout 3 the main meat of the game is the World Tour mode which has the usual selection of challenges e.g. takedown, eliminator and one on one races etc. Pursuit mode from Burnout 2 has made it into the mix and crash mode makes a return as well.

The speed is as always insanely fast even in the basic coupes and takedowns are as fun as ever (especially aftertouch takedowns), basically if you enjoyed the previous versions you'll enjoy this as well although if you got sick of Burnout 3 on PS2/X-Box then there's nothing here worth getting particularly excited about.

The graphics aren't exactly fantastic compared to say Ridge Racers, they're very jaggy in places and the cars aren't particularly detailed either but at the speeds you'll be racing at there's not really any time to stop and look at them in detail anyway. If the soundtrack on Burnout 3 bothered you then Legends will do so also but I'm sure it'll please the MTV2 crowd however the annoying announcer from 3 is gone I'm glad to say.

Again like most games being released now 1.52 firmware seems to be required and there's no infrastructure mode either, up to 6 players can play ad-hoc though.

Yeah it powerslides as good as its bigger brothers - sensation of speed is amazing - one thing tho, they've taken out the speed blur when you use turbo, dunno why, possibly due to technical reasons?

Also the game has game sharing, which is bloody impressive as i thought only non-fast paced games would have that. If your running the game via 1.5 and other person has 2.0, it will alert you that in order to work you need to upgrade your fw, but this can easily be sorted with the fw upgrade trick prog which works wonders - so its all good!

I've never played any of the Burnout games - for the uninitiated, and seeing as the PSP has already a huge amount of racers, what's the hype about this one for?

Tbh I'm not a huge racing fan but its simplicity I go for so I do like the burnout games & trying this out its a pick up and go style racer(very much the same as bo3), plus all the crashing makes it a bit of a riot. Crash mode didnt look as good as the big versions, but should i be comparing? it is a portable version after all...

I'd reccomend it if you havent played the other versions

It's probably the ability to play BO3 style (i.e. knocking people off the road) on the series best tracks (BO2 is widely regarded as being top of the BO pile).

Just received my copy from Gameplay, only had a quick go, but I'm very impressed. I managed to miss out on Burnout 2, but I think the pursuit mode will be my favourite bit, takes me back to playing Chase HQ in the arcade...

Controls are great, everything feels right and the graphics are excellent. For me, crash mode seems identical to the crash mode from Burnout 3, which was my favourite part of that game.

My local indie was selling it and I almost picked up a copy when I realised I had a copy on the way from Amazon So, I decided to pick up a copy from GAME and then just take it back once my Amazon order arrives (cause I'm an impatient bastard), but they wouldn't sell it until they had authorisation and I didn't plan on sticking around the greg's pasty stinking **** hole any longer than need be.

Though I did get a quick blast at in GAME. Pretty impressive stuff, especially the framerate and detail it's throwing around.

Yea u can update to 1.52 off the disk (remember to do it with powersupply in tho!).

I got mine from gameplay today as well. Dont think theres anything more to add really apart from the music gets muted as its terrible EA trax rubbish. Loading isnt that great when using crash mode but for racing series its fine.

I also almost purchased from an indie shop, but my Amazon one was dispatched today, so hopefully will arrive tomorrow. I'm a little surprised they didn't cancel the order as I placed it for 25 quid and they've bumped the price back up to 30

just picked this up and it gives me 2 very distinct feelings.

firstly its undoubtedly a great game and technical achievement (assuming you like Burnout in the first place), as an old gamer of years experience, playing this on a handheld when I can remember the first gameboy coming out is nothing short of miraculous.

secondly though i can't help thinking that this, and much of the PSP output, are not actually what handheld gaming is about? I have just greatly enjoyed playing this on my sofa, with my tv consoles not out of reach, but can't see me taking it on the tube like say a Meteos, Advance Wars, Yoshi Touch, Warioware etc.

to me, and maybe it is just me, the psp is a wonderful bit of kit, but the software is missing the point of what a handheld on the go game should be.

                        great game though.

Yeah, what is it with Amazon, arguably the biggest online supplier of "stuff", yet they just won't send the stuff out before release date so that you actually get it on release day. My delivery estimate is next Tuesday for **** sakes!

I totally agree with that, this is a great game but it really doesnt feel like what a portable game should be. Possibly because it requires too much concentration, If I were surrounded by 30 commuters on a bus, it may be a little distracting and one laps in concentration will see you drifting into a wall.

As far as the game goes I am very impressed although the sound is incredibly tinny.

Totally agree. I stuck it in, and first impression was "Wow" that's fast. Second was, "This is isn't suited to PSP" Which is odd as Ridge Racer was great! Perhaps it's because you can't quite see far ahead enough?

I keep trying to see where the oncoming traffic/bends are, and it's hard! I think I'm playing from memory rather than skill.
