In fairness you paragraph pretty much says it all. (Why did I waste all those words! )

It's fun. It's dead cheap. It looks fantastic. It doesn't rely on "Jumpie Outie from behind" game mechanics.

    Buy it.

Played this a fair bit and it just dosent seem to be quake for me, the more medevil setting of the second game with it's castles and brutal weaponry made the game stand out for me so why dose this look like doom with the lights on, it all just seems to close to the doom 3 setting for me "were not on mar's were on another genric looking dusty alien planet" for me halo showed devs, how to do alien wolds with variety so why the big step back here.

It's not a bad blaster and it has quite a bit going for it it just seems a bit like fps by number's to me.

Started on the 360 version last night, was wanting to play as Lietenant difficulty in order to have a more challenging game, and earn a few extra achievements. However, the game is killed dead by the appaling load times. Its likely Id die a lot on the harder difficulty, which is fine and to be expected, but the 20 second + plus wait each time you die for the game to reload the last checkpoint is disgusting and ruins the game for me. Other than that its not too bad so far, but this single failing is a real issue for me.

I played the demo of this and though it looked more hi-res (maybe it was the texture assets Raven used) than most 360 titles (even at an equivalent resolution) I couldn't stomach the frame-rate. Doesn't it give you headaches?

Not me no, but Ive never had that problem really. The worst framerate in recent memory was NFSMW on the 360, but even that I managed to play for hours on end with no problems.

I completed the game on Private a little while back, just to get a good idea of what the game is like and if I enjoyed the experience and when I viewed the ending, which is a bit short and unexciting (Quake V anybody?) - I went back to the main menu to find that the General mode was unlocked thus I started the game on that mode straight away as I found Private mode a walk in the park.

General mode is hard but can be done if you save every now and again (do NOT rely on the checkpoints!) - it opened the game up and made it very enjoyable if frustrating in places. Like Marcus stated, the frame-rate problems, especially on Act 3 is terrible and the load times - fair enough, I do not mind the game loading from level to level but to spend 20+ seconds looking at the loading screen everytime you die and restart?

Absolutely nasty work. It is the deciding factor that makes me glad to finish General mode and not to see the light of day having to die and reload a save point hundreds of times hence the reason why saving on General mode is very important.

My favourite 'Act' is the first due to the variety of team-based combat, vehicles, indoor and outdoor locations, variable enemies and a good atmosphere. Some of the characters were enjoyable to talk to too.

I might come back to the game another day but the loading time issues... My God.

What pissed me off more than the loading was the fact the game bases the order of saved games on the internal clock which resets like the Xbox did if you don't turn it on for a day. So you'd come back to the game not knowing which save is the latest as they're usually somewhere in the midday to 1PM range. I ended up having to delete all checkpoint saves and use one manual save to avoid confusion.

The loading times were a bit testing, and the frame rate was hard to bear but I really enjoyed this on the 360.
I was not expecting much granted, but as simple run and gun it was very enjoyable,it was a refreshingly uncomplicated affair (and all the better for it).
Out of all the launch games I think that this was the one that graphically, impressed me the most. The early levels were good looking but some of the stuff in the core with the lighting effects in full flow were astonishing.(I add that I havent got a powerful PC-so probably a bit easier to please than some here).
Two moments stand out,one I was waiting near a door whilst 2 marines were welding, phew it was very sexy, the sparks, the shadows, the lighting oh my.
The second was where I was in a room with no lights and the torches of my teamates were highlighting dust particles floating in the atmosphere, brilliant.
I thought those bits were truly the first time that I saw the 360 output what I thought was genuinely 'next-gen' imagery.

Today I tried again to get into this on the 360. Im at that part where you are in a vehicle and have to take out a load of turrets. On the PC it wasnt that bad, it was smooth, I could aim properly with the mouse and keyboard, and if I died I could just start over again within seconds. Here though, its jerky as hell, I fix my sight onto a target only for a huge movement glitch to totally ruin my aim, Ive died several times on this part and each death I have to wait at least a minute (which feels like 10 watching that dull, boring load screen) to restart over again.

With that, Ive decided never to return to this shockingly poor conversion of an ok game again, lifes way too short!

Well I've just finished this and I enjoyed every last minute of it. Recently played through both The Darkness and Prey so was after some old school FPS action which this is!

The gameplay does exactly what is says on the tin, so no surprises there.I really did feel some connection to my fellow troopers, and watching them die in various manners really was gruesome. The radio chatter element was also very well done.

The framerate issues mentioned in previous post are no longer evident btw.

I really did enjoy the game within Quake 4 but after playing the PC version on my mates (almost super) computer with everything cranked up to the maximum, the frame-rate issues (especially on Act 3), the very questionable loading times (they take anywhere between 30-90 seconds - no joke) and the rather mixed visuals in places (one minute it is stunning, the next less so) spoiled an otherwise great game.

And don't get me started on the multi-player; you have to wait for 120 seconds once somebody enters the lobby so the timer starts counting down but if anybody else joins in the lobby at any point once the countdown starts, the timer resets to 120 seconds.

The amount of times I waited for the game to start when during the last 10 seconds or so, somebody would jump into the lobby at the last moment. Even the long loading times in present in the multi-player and sometimes times out due to the rather 'try your luck' connection.

The worse thing is that you wait for so long for the match to finally start, it ends before you know it due to the kills coming thick and fast - once the brief match is over you are booted back to the main menu(!)

Awful stuff to be quite frank and it doesn't help when there are just FOUR maps to choose from on the Xbox 360 version.

I do hope ID returns to the Quake series one day though.
