Ok, finally got a chance to pick up this game last night, and it definately deserves its own FIrst PLay PAge
for starters, I have to tell you that an existing DMC 3 save game will allow you to Unlock Vergil and Bloody palace right from the get go. The disadvantage though is that you cannot load any Dante save data, so if want to the luxury of playing DMD with either character, without having to switch games, it requires another play thru with DANTe on all difficulties, well, starting from Normal, cause Easy is so rediculous, but for someone new to the game, Cerebus on "Easy" in DMC was insanely hard at the beginning, so for anyone this game is very open for New players.
Starting up the game for the first time with Vergil, you can choose 2 options, Gold or Yellow mode. this obviously applies to your checkpoint re-starting method, as discussed in countless game reviews. The bad thing is that once you make a choice, any game saves you have apply only to THAT setting, so your 1 or the other ALL the way through, so if you want both it requires 2 completely different saves, and play thrus, so choose wisely.
Moving on, I Fired up for Vergil straight away, and let me tell you, he is off the hook dude! his moves are insane, and most of them are jump cancellable for you swordmasters out there. The Phantom Swords for instance, can be upgraded 3 times, 2 of which increase the speed at which they fire, maxed out they go pretty dam fast for the punch they give, mind you im playing thru on Normal right now, so its not like enemies have much health to begin with. So mashing square shoots a whole lot really quick. once upgraded, you can hold down square, and 4, 5, or 6 swords, depending on the first upgrade will begin to spin around you. Note: this move consumes 1.5, 2 bubbles of Devil Trigger, rightly so cause its freaking strong. once the swords are spinning you can continue to fight, the swords causing massive damage while spinning, or by hitting R1+Forward Square, the swords go and circle an enemy, and eventually all shoot inward at once. Or R1+backward square to line them up around vergil and shoot them all at once, and you can mash square to shoot more swords while performing this combo
What about Bloody palace you ask? well for starters, I'm not 100% on this, but I dont think you can select difficulty for Bloody palace, or maybe it just picks whatever difficulty you were last playing, i have no idea. Lemme just say that this mode is done so much better than in DMC 2, mainly because you dont start on lvl one, instead its almost like a Transitional stage before starting the full mode. So you kill a few guys, and the portals pop up, Fire=100 lvls, Water=10, or watever, you've read the reviews im sure. So anyway, I skipped by 100s, so jumping into the fire portal takes me to lvl 100, NOT 101, like that annoying DMC 2 crap, so i dont have to play 9 lvls to get to 110, and than 9 lvls skipping by 10 to get to an even 200, the game takes care of it. Now when I get to 900, there was another Transitional stage, where i fought vergil (dante) 3, after which i continued on to 1000, again skipping by 100's. The same thing happened when i got to 1900, except it was Vergil (Dante) 2, which was a little harder. So 2 Boss battles have been confirmed, every 1000 lvls. Check this out guys, its really cool what they've done with this mode. 8)
Well, thats a good summary so far i guess, hope this new Forum picks up. If anyone has yet to pick this up and has any questions, dont hesitate, mind you my knowledge is still limited, as I havent even beat it on Easy yet, lol, but i have fought most of the bosses.
