UPDATE: am half way thru Very Hard w/ Vergil atm, and so far, the only difference I noticed between Hard and Very Hard, (the US normal and Hard) was that the enemies can take a bigger beating, and do a bit more dmg. I've pretty much got Vergil's moves down, and Dark Slayer mastered, so its pretty easy. Managed to do 10 lvls of Very Hard, the first 10 mind you in just over 2 hours.

Also, I just noticed this 2day, when using either Force Edge or Yamatto, if Vergil is allowed an uninterupted amount of time to sheeth Yamatto, in Force Edge, Yamatto is sheethed 2nd after the full combo, you gain 1 DT bubble, and half a bar of style, pretty useful considering he's not doing nething. this applies to the Yamatto Combo, Upper Slash (R1+Back Tri) and the full Force Edge Combo, and doesnt matter if enemies are on the screen or have just all died. Since the Sword taunts take forever, only Beowulf's is somewhat fast, this technique much more useful than a taunt for the swords

How does Ninja gaiden Black compare to this overall in terms of depth, combat/system options and enemy/boss AI?

I didn't really like Ninja Gaiden that much especially compared to DMC3 but supposedly there are more weapons, new enemies, better AI and an improved camera to sort out some of the problems.

Looking at a guide for NGB there seems to be a ton in it.

So in Very Hard, do you need the royal guard timings from DMD or the longer ones from normal/hard? I hadn't even taken RG out of the box until DMD, so they are the only timings I know.

Ninja Gaiden Black is an excellent game with lots and lots of added content. The DMC3 SE doesn't have quite as much extra content and tweaks as black but enough to warrent another perchase IMO.

Pal black has added decaps (yay!) new cut scenes and weapns and improve AI (just like you said. also mission mode and some altered bosses and harder difficultys and stuff.

Both are awesome but DMC3 is CLEARLY the better game

I let DMC3 just sit on a shelf for months before I sold it on, just didnt have the time for it back then as was too busy playing other stuff. >_< Hmmm should prolly finish RE4 some time as well. ;\/

Just waiting for mate to come back from the US with my copy of DMC3 SE and will be looking forward to actually playing it. Found some videos of someone caining the 2nd section with Vergil

Havnt seen the below videos, but downloading them as I type.

                Edit

9 minute video with some music over the top of it

                Edit 2

Some dude using music over the top, and some random editing with him going through the game...prolly nsfw because of the first picture, so i just delete link just in case. Was pretty spoiler heavy...but I guess you guys have played the game to death already.

if it really really bugs you, this site may be useful. it contains the box art of almost every release of DMC 3, and every game, CD, movie, anything that has a CASE, the SE Japanese edition aint there yet, but im guessing in a few weeks, the cover will also be available.
http://www.cdcovers.cc/ take a look, its an awsome site

Update regarding Bloody Palace mode: for those of you who have read my general overview of the game on the first page, I have discovered I was totally wrong about the boss encounters, and since I've been focusing on unlocking DMD mode,i hadnt had time to put some more time into Bloody Palace until last nite. What I discovered is that, instead of every 1000 lvls, a random boss fight will occur every 10 stages, and that doesnt mean skipping by 10s, but skipping by anything. For example, if I were to skip by 1, 10, 100, 100, 100, 1, 100, 10, 100, Boss, and so on and so fourth.
Also, skipping by 10 (lightning portal), the stage will begin with a Large White orb for DT, and going by 1's (water portal) will yield a large green orb for health

Been playing this for the past 3 days and have to say I'm a bit disappointed with some of the extra things that Capcom have added. While its all very nice to play as Vergil, I wish they would have given him his own separate missions... even if only a handful... that would actually have made more sense in terms of story rather than having us replay the same missions, some of which are beginning to simply annoy me by now. The Jester boss battle is also a rather peculiar addition, because not only is it the same battle every time, but again, it doesn't really fit in with the story, particularly with Dante's, which is a pity since the storyline is one of the stronger aspects of the game.

The new gold orbs are a welcome addition however... makes things less frustrating than under the yellow orb mode. That really is the only major change that was really worthwhile in my opinion though... I'll have to finish Vergil's missions at least on one difficulty before fully making my mind up, but so far I think that it would have been better if Capcom simply delayed the game a few months and took the time to implement a new storyline that ran parallel to Dante's.

Thing is we're all very well versed in the story... most of us have played through the game many many times over, and it's probably safe to say the story only mattered the first time - people replay it because the fighting is so much fun. So getting the opportunity to kick ass with a brand new character/new set of moves is the real appeal... who gives a monkeys if the story doesn't make sense as a result?

I'm with Darwock on this one. Watching Vergil rape the Hell Vangaurd for the first time made me appreciate him as a character, and an enemy. Now getting the chance to use him and tackle all the same challenges that Dante faced is the real appeal of the game. It doesnt even bug me that you fight Vergil with a red coat instead of Dante, cause its the same challenge. Vergil is what Dante would be like if he wasnt showing off and giving his enemies a chance. Vergil doesnt care about his enemies, he has a goal in mind, lvl 20, get there, kill whoever's in the way, end of story.

question: would Identical twins have the same sounding voice? cause i think it should be really hard to tell Dante and Vergil apart, but 2 diff chars, just a game, I know, but I cant help wondering, that fighting Dante with Vergil is more like fighting your twin with the same attitude, and fighting style, who just happens to have the opposite goal. Makes them seem a lot more like identical twins than fighting Vergil with Dante cause they're so different.

Another thing - the Jester fight is NOT the same fight repeated, it's three different routines that you fight; the third of which is absolutely incredible and will take you a good while to make perfect. Also they've made untold changes to the frames and properties of moves (Killer Bee jump cancel window is now massive for example) - far too many to list in a post, but ofcourse nobody will appreciate them as tweaks like this are worthless ennit.

I can imagine how much bitching there would be from gamers if Capcom spent the money for a whole new main game production for Vergil and released this as a full price game.

This is fan service for the people that appreciate the work that goes into it, they didnt have to include anything extra for the Greatest Hits re-release at all - Bloody Palace, Turbo Mode and the Jester fight alone are worth the asking price.

Does it still have that awesome intro cut scene where Dante dusts up the demons using the pool table and eating pizza? Best cut-scene eveeeer!
