i tried to get somebody into morrowind he just did not like it though.

I think what really put him off was being killed by small rats

Didn't work for me, well on my second character as a archer/vampire/thief!

Also, is it normal for everyone, and I do mean everyone in the world to go absolutely bonkers when you trespass and knick things from locked chests and so on?

Just now I had a ****ing army of monks coming after me after opening a chest

Picked up my PC version today. I was really worried because parts of my system are quite old. I do have a gig of RAM and a 6600GT, but I am also using a 1.2ghz Athlon XP processor (way below min requirements).

I'm running it in 1024x768, view distance on max, everything else just below middle, textures on large, AA and HD Lighting off, bloom lighting on. The game runs well, the inside bits are pretty much perfect, look sweet, and I get a constantly decent frame rate. The outside area's don't look as smart as some of the screenshots around, but I still get a really nice frame rate (it does jerk abit when the outside area initialy loads, but after 2-3 seconds its fine) The game looks amazing!!

Had a brief explore of the Market district of the first city (havn't bothered to head on with the main quest yet).

        Beggining Spoiler

When I first left the sewer, I crossed the water to the ruins, and got absolutely obliterated by the guy with an axe, while his woman shot me with arrows from a distance :/. Anyway I reloaded crossed over to have another try, and the guy came running at me, straight past me, and into the water, where he splashed around for a bit and started fighting a fish, who eventualy killed him . Has anyone explored those ruins? I chickened out and set forth for the main quest.

        Side Quest Spoiler

I just finished one side quest for a merchant who was suspitious of her competition. Quite a nice mission, and reminded me somewhat of the first one you do in Morrowind, sneaking around following people and listening in on their conversations. I actualy found the final battle quite difficult, maybe because of my character class (I upped the difficulty abit too), I had to retry it afew times and use afew powerfull scrolls and a a couple of health potions to get though it.

Character at the moment is a Dark Elf, star sign is theif, and I made a custom class called "Slayer" that is a mix of theif, assasin, and witch hunter, with the character being mainly magic balanced. Think my skills where (agility, intelligence : alchemy, marksman, mysticism, illusion, sneak, blade, ?can't remember the last one)

The character creation tool is fantastic, so much to customise, I must of spent near an hour deciding what character to be :S

I never played Morrowind, but this sure does sound like a bit of me. I just booked a day off work and I ain't told nobody. (Lock doors, keep curtains shut etc action awaits me)
Doesn't really matter, the lvling is slightly different to the likes of WoW and FF. It's explained in the anticipation thread somewhere, didn't really understand until I played myself.

Essentially if you create a character who is specialised say in magic or combat than he/she will have a lower max lvl than some one who does a little of everything. This is because he starts off much more powerful and has less to lvl than the guy who does a little of everything.

It all works out in the end so just do what you want. Best thing is you can take your mage specialist and power him up to be a kick ass warrior aswell. Just won't be quite as good as warrior from the start.

Shoot me if I'm wrong but I think that is how it works.

I've just been having a stroll trying to kill some innocents.

I keep failing....its morrowind all over again , I'm gonna have to come back in a bit and slaughter them when I'm stronger.

Has anyone tried chasing a deer? Their Pathing finding AI is very good, I opened a gate and one went straight for it. DAMN THEM!

It would be rubbish if you could just kill anyone you want from the off?

And why do you want to kill innocents anyway? I feel the urge to be good (with perhaps a little stealing... maybe).

Do you get to team up with other characters in the game or are you a one-man army?

WOW! I have to say i'm totally blown away by this game! and i've not really played that much of it yet. 0_0

I owned the GOTY edition of Morrowind and found it quite entertaining for a while. I prob played about 30 hours worth of stuff before i lost interest. I enjoyed the free roaming aspect of it but it all felt a little amatureish. Roaming around a barren lifeless brown land that is.

Oblivion blows it out the water. Combat in morrowind was apaullingly bad, Oblivion fixes it totally. Feels much more like Condemned and really works. The world seems HUGE. i've only just got out of the sewers and went for a little wonder. I when to the ruins you first see when exiting the sewers and discovered

another Dungeon! and a GREAT dungeon at that! really well designed, lots of traps and and the combat is so fun!

I "meh"ed my way through morrowind but this is just constant fun!

                            Love it!

Awesome. Even with my smudged underscreen-filled HDTV I'm in awe.

                              Gobsmacked.

10/10 from EG by the way (something of a surprise when you consider how lukewarm they've been to the 360 up to now).

Anyone else spend a good hour deciding what character they wanted to be and how they should look?

                              Back to it.

Just get yourself some poison and tip your arrows with it, fire at said innocent and then watch them slowly die. Not something I would ever do of course
