Is this game similar to playing.. say Wind Waker in Japanese? Or is it much more menu based like Final Fantasy?

It's very much like Wind Waker. There are some menus to navigate if you want to use items, but it's fairly easy.

Could someone tell me how to save please? Is it saving itself or is there an option or something? I've played nearly an hour and i'm scared i'll press the Quit option instead of Save

edit: Nevermind, found the statue things

Could anyone do a quick translation of the Select option menu? There's 6 options, 2 is rumble, 3 and 4 are sound and 5 is for DPLII/Stereo. Anyone know what 1 and 6 are?

No idea what they are. But I could take my gf's dictionary home tomorrow and try to translate 'em. Might be too late?

1 is camera options, basically changing the axis controls (reversing).
6 is "MONITOR setting" - I guess LCD display - am sticking with standard.

Getting deeper into this now. I'm loving some of the battles, plus I'm up on weapons and moves (one is quite cheeky).

Is anyone else hunting down all these clover plants? I'm finding it difficult to move on 'cause I can just spend a whole day wanderin' around lookin' for all the secret stuff and playin' the mini games and feedin' the tigers.

                This game is too cool.

Thought I might've finished this by now, but it just keeps on expanding.
I haven't read how long it's meant to be, but it's fair to say it's a decent size.

I'm still short of about 4 celestial brush moves, but the stuff I've got is opening up all sorts of possibilities (off I go backtracking).

Combat keeps on growing, and I've just bought a lot of new moves and abilities. And the range of enemies is pretty expansive now.(^_^)

Got a bit further into this now and it really is quite lovely. I do wonder if its a little easy though - am sure there is a lot of hand holding and my only difficulty is from the language. each task is usually spelt out for you...just in a non-native language (!)
Am intrigued as to how well it will localise as the graphics in the game are very japanese. Chinese characters seem to play a large part of many of the design themes (even the calligaphy style is oriental) so I look forward to seeing what is changed. It is lovely throughout though! those waiting for an English language version, keep your breath level at "high bated XL".
Combat has stepped up a bit but has, thus far, been pretty simple though quite fun. It is still fun to stop time and draw on some faces!

Just completed the first dungeon of this game - totally stunning I have to say!

I really hope they do a Wii version.

VG+ reports 31st of may release, not sure if that is accurate, any ideas? Would love to get hold of this game looks amazing, one for the summer etc.

Been visiting this again recently. It was a struggle playing it in another language, but the US release is just 'round the corner now.

My first play through was a wonderful experience, and since finishing it I've been anticipating the english ver. Was gonna hold out 'til the PAL release, but that's no good (February my arse) so against my bankers advice I'll be picking up a US system just for this game.

It's gonna be even more wicked knowing what's being said.

And, I'll say it again - the music.

the 1up.com feature this week is the English language version of Okami, makes an interesting read for anyone that's waited so long for the USA release (ie. me)

The old/new video comparison is very interesting. Clearly the cell shaded look is superb, but the original vid had some neat visuals too.

I think the first (old) one may be pre-rendered though, wheras the second cel-shaded look seems to be in-engine.
