I am on Case 4-1 now and its recently gotten very interesting. I'll spoiler tag it, although if you watched any E3/IGN footage you will have probably seen it anyway.

I just had a cool boss fight in a super market with the store manager and his, erm, modified shopping trolley. That was a cool boss fight, although a little bit annoying when trying to regain health but getting shot at. Nothing major though, and not annoying like the very first battle with Carlos. Or his second one with the sniper rifle..

Then it was a very very quick sprint back to base with some medicine (Capcom+Medicine+Injured Friends+Zombies+on other side of game mechs hee hee).

I rescued some big guy in Jills Sandwiches, and then went to find a dude with a big knife at the other mall, however on the way I saw those yellow dressed+green masked weirdos and had to kill them - they are freeeeeaky!! That was then another rescue mission.

And the yellow coated weirdos have just captured me and put me in a box. Whaaa!! Thats messed up!

So I have missed a couple of seemingly major side missions, but as I am for now sticking with the main case files I don't think it will be an issue. I am Level 24 now, and can carry about 8 items which is incredibly helpful. Its going to be book modifying time I think now I can carry so much stuff. Yup yup, this is quality stuff alright, it's just like nothing I have ever played before, and especially not from Capcom.

It's incredibly overwhelming at first and I think that because its not such a friendly system, and simple things like the map isn't very helpful (doesn't even show where to take survivors, so until you know you will be making mistakes which in turn annoy ya), it not exactly super welcoming. Perhaps that is their point, huh?

Is there any kind of 'free roam' mode, without objectives etc, unlockable perhaps when you finish the game? Basically so you can just focus on having fun, and slaughtering lots of zombie types?

The save system as well as the Otois (or whatever) phoning me doesn't really bother me. Maybe its because I'm just too good at this or something.

My major annoyance right now is the cons in the jeep. I have killed them already, so why do they keep respawning? Completley unfair, especially when trying to escort 4 girls across the park. They wont help out like male characters do, so you end up dying there whilst trying to protect them, and yourself from the unfair attack from the gunner on the jeep. Takes the piss.

DC that saddens me because they've been doing my head in constantly - I'd have hoped killing them got rid of them - It makes no sense for them to respawn other than to annoy.....

As much as I love this, there really is something missing that I'm hoping will click very soon! I'll probably be back tomorrow saying "Game of the year" hehe.
I think it's a game that improves with replay value, if all the stats and non-essential case files are carried across. I know when I'm more powered up and better organised that I'll probably forget the storyline and just **** about for a bit. I'm prepared to let Dead Rising sway me on replays even if in doing so it's impossible to ignore the brokenness of some it.

dc-arena - I'd heard a lot about those being a pain the arse, but I've experienced no problem with them. They're usually on the other side of the park.

Yeah it's a bug. I tend to just avoid them as they're thick as pig shat and usually end up getting wedged on a tree.

I usually find they leave you alone and get stuck like that if you scoot around the side of the leisure prask rather than bolting across the middle (or avoid the park altogether as most parts of th the mall are connected in various different ways, you just have to unlock some of them in the story or certain side missions).

Closest to that is Infinite mode which allows you to do this, the only drawback being that your health drains on its own and you have to keep eating stuff to replenish it. Not as bad as it sounds but not as free roaming as some might like.

Photographs and rescuing. It automatically levels you up - I don't think you're given a choice in which parts to focus on (not that I've seen anyway).

I've actually had to start from the beginning again after just reaching day 2. I saved at one of the bathrooms with one health point and was unable to get past the horde of zombies outside to go find more health, so I figured I might as well start from the beginning as at least I'll have a fighting chance with my slightly level'd up Frank. Thankfully I managed to level up again during the flyby bit at the start.

Regarding the cons; are you all destroying the jeep once you've killed them? If not, I've found doing this stops em' respawning.

It's not the respawning jeep which is the bane of my concern. Mine is bringing survivors back and always finding a thousand and one zombies in the lift and not having the required weapon to deal with them quickly.

I'd say rescuing survivors and defeating Psycho's is the best way to level up to start (although rescuing them does become easier the more you level up).

Plus if you're brave and have unlocked the Double Lariat move, head down to the maintainace tunnels with a load of orange juice and get busy. You get more points from hand to hand stuff than you do from

                            driving over

things or bashing them with weapons.

Also, regarding levelling up, it's well worth maxing Frank up to Level 50. The move it unlocks never, ever stops being hilarious

If you've levelled up enough, here the Double Lariat move is your biggest friend

Where do you find the button combinations for these moves though? I've unlocked loads and it never tells me what the combo is at the confirmation on the bottom of the screen - just the name.

Yeah it was undrivable. Yet by morning they were driving it again. I presumed it just respawned like the motorbike and car does from the garage.

What makes it worse is that they're there as soon as I leave the mall, so you have no chance. By yourself, sure no worries, but trying to escort four STUPID people across that keep stopping and looking at the lake or whatever just gets you killed. And me annoyed.

I managed to get three across, then they just play dumbass in the mall and I get blown up by the yellow-clothed weirdos. Maybe I should completley ignore that side quest for now.. I just have so much time before having to start the next part I thought I'd give it a go...
