I'm guessing they're trying to disassociate it with Tokyo Xtreme Racer over here now as the last ones completely bombed at retail.

What I don't understand is the constant reference of them being "import" cars, but surely as you're racing in Japan they're domestic cars? :P

It's to pander to the US market. There is a reasonably sized import car scene there which is linked to the usual suspects i.e. Nissan, Mazda etc. etc.
AFAIK there is also a popular car magazine called Import Tuner in the US. If the name change brings them more sales I'm happy and can live with it. Plus we get to play it in English

Sure would have been nice to see some weather effects in play. Hopefully there will be a sequel in in the future, there are things missing that have been brought up that I wouldn't mind seeing.

I've found that I have still got Shutokou Battle for the dreamcast I paid just 1pence for it on Ebay 2 years ago, I don't think I gave it anytime though.

I'm sure the Import Tuner logo appeared at the start of the Dreamcast version as well. Although maybe not in Europe.

It does give the wrong impression.

Racing Japanese cars in Japan is domestic.

But like Geezer says, they're having to market it to the Americans, who on buying a game called domestic tuner challenge, are bemused to find there's no American cars in it.

Well I'd hope Genki will have a next-gen Kaido game in the works before they start working on the Shutokou Battle, or even a new Racing Battle game! As much as I like the Shutokou games I am getting a little bored of the same highways, which is why I was hoping they'd include Osaka and the other highways introduced in the last version.

I haven't had much experience of Genki's previous games other than this version and the first dreamcast game, so for me I haven't reached that stage of sameness.

Maybe I should say that I will be looking forward to future releases by Genki whatever the setting.

Back to my racing, I have a long night ahead of me.

If you have a PS2 check out SB01, it's without a doubt the best version in my eyes. If you dig car tuning you should also check out those Kaido and Racing Battle games!

How do I unlock more play areas? I've beaten all the teams at night, midnight and daybreak and have only got the C1 loop and P1 area leading up to it?

Do I need to beat the boss characters too or is that all there is to race?

Beat the bosses to open up the courses. Use the rivals list to check for info on where and what time of night they are likely to be around. They can be found in parking areas, or on the road.

They're usually a purple arrow on the map, right?

I think the Purple ones on the map are rivals you have already raced, but not beaten yet.

Blue ones are rivals you've not yet raced at all.

I've defeated all the rivals in all the time zones. Just have some Wanderers left and the final boss but I can't find the fecker.

I don't use the onscreen map, caused me to have too many accidents by distracting me, sorry. I now just use the wing mirrors as I've turned off the rear view mirror as well.

From memory I think that the 4 colours used on the map, were yellow for your position on the map, blue rival cars not yet raced, green rivals you've defeated, and the purple ones were cars you either lost or drawn (taiking wrong route) against.

The rivals list is on the quest mode screen, if you go into that it has all the different teams and shows you stats against them, who you've raced and beat, where you will find those that you haven't raced yet. i.e. on the C1 loop itself or in one of the parking areas and also the time of day. The boss cars are listed there too. Also has information about the wanderers, seems you can pick and choose when you race them, they also sometimes decline a battle.

Having said all that, their might still be an easier way to find them, but this is my first real trip into the world of Shutokou Battle so just going on what I have experienced.
If your on live, feel free to add me to your friends list.

                              Edit: beaten by Kubrick.

Nah, the info is great. Just found and beat the bosses and unlocked some more track

As for Live, if I was it I'd add you in an instant as I'd love to play against others but setting it up is a bit of a hassle at the minute and I'll be offline with my 360 for the foreseeable future or at least until I can afford a rwireless router
