I've finished the main story now. There are still 100's of side missions to be getting on with, but I personally don;t feel like carrying on. Looks nice tho.
The grapple hook is a great idea but I found myself launching at fresh air or unintended vehicles in frantic moments Shame the grappling hook doesn't work on buildings and trees etc.

Probably is. Maybe I'm thinking more about the lack of diversity in the cities themselves, they're just blocks put together.

The character models are also dire at times - ok stylistically in the cut scenes, but in game it reminds me heavily of PS2 GTA.

The stunts don't flow together as well as I'd hoped, a bit more cohesion would have helped. I just completed a mission on a luxury liner and was being picked up by a speedboat. I jumped off the liner, grappled on to the boat, and reeled myself in - to be plonked standing on the front of the boat. I couldn't drive, I had to mount the rear gun, which meant I had to jump off the boat, clumsily swim round, and get on the gun. It spoilt the "moment" - it should have placed me on the gun in the first instance.

Despite all this I'm enjoying it and will carry on playing. And no-way I'm I doing all the side missions either, there look to be hundreds of them!

      I've done seven

One thing that really frustrates me is the AI of cars and the police. For the dumbest of crimes you'll have a helicopter firing at your constantly for ages until you start a mission or complete one.

It's highly annoying especially when you spin out alot on the dirt roads which can be a nightmare at times to drive along.

The storyline is alright, I've progressed a bit, but it doesn't interest me as much as other games, while the side missions; well there must be hundreds of them. And there all fairly clear cut and easy to complete.

As for the cities, not exactly the greatest things to grace a game. Its very flawed and can get boring, but the achievement system is well thought out as you have 50 to complete and they vary for progression to skill.

It's a very clumsy game (especially hand-to-hand combat, moving - feels very much like a sandbox Max Payne) but the whole 'Far Cry' (without the linear A to B) vibe is excellent. I infintely prefer a setting like this compared to the painful, GCSE play-level wannabe gangsta cliches of Saints Row and I'm not usually a beach/island inclined gamer. The colour scheme (which I can't speak highly enough about) and the general scale is gorgeous in places, even if admittedly the actual mechanics are very flawed.

I can see this being a marmite game then - an Otogi free-roamer in the way that it splits people. Like TDU, I don't think Just Cause is remotely being a San Andreas or Oblivion where the depth of the gameplay just sucks you in for weeks on end, but already I can see it being a great chillout game.

Hi peeps, can only give first impressions but they might help you decide if it's a 'buy' or a 'try'.

Whoa! First few minutes of this game are totally action packed and great fun. What a marvellous introduction. Did a mission or two then found the airport and hijacked a plane. Flew high into the sky (those clouds are gorgeous!) then baled. Realised I could re-hijack the plane again so did that for a laugh.

Baled once more and went into freefall, just taking in the view. Decided on the way down that despite being miles from my objective I'd head that way. A mixture of free fall and parachute later and I land spot on where I need to be.

Liberate the village? Yes please! So I did, and enjoyed it thoroughly.

It's a really positive start, I hope it keeps up

I've played it for a couple of hours, the game mostly has a really good pace, you can just take your time doing whatever you fancy.

its sometimes a little irratating when you are in the middle of nowhere and you have to swim or whatever, but as you unlock more heavy drop items that soon doesn't become a problem.

I especially like the way you can approach a mission from the ground of the sky, there is nothing more fun than flying over an enemy settlement and nuking them with your chopper's missiles.

I enjoyed the opening sequence too. If Jerry Bruckheimer made a video game it'd be something like this!

This wasn't something I actually planned on buying, but I picked up a copy cheap today. I've only just got past the initial introduction (which I thought was f'in superb) and I'm now just doing a bit of exploring. I've got to say it's a lot better than I thought it would be. If only TDU used the same engine, it's absolutely lush.

I'm still pottering my way through this, I'm finding the simple pleasure of just flying around the vast lanscapes to be quite therapeutic.

I had some quality stunt action going on last night though, I had to get onto a big ferry boat out at sea.

I zipped a pickup truck towards the sea, jumped out a parachuted as fa as I could, fortunately a passing speedboat was near enough for me to grapple onto , so I had it tow me near enough to the boat so I could Snipe my man right in the head.

Well thats what I planned to happen anyway, I ended up actually hitting the funnel of the boat as I tried to snipe him and had to take him on with a machine gun instead.

Been playing this some more, checking out the vistas whilst trying to find that magic 1000metre base jump spot.

                          Got 995 so far......typical

Check out this picture, now that is next gen

It sure looks pretty, but the most amazing thing is you can go onto every centremetre of that mountain.
