Not exactly overcome by Eurogamer's 8/10 either, especially when they granted F.E.A.R a 9
It's great. Not the best thing ever as some would have you believe, but a solid 9/10 title. The controls while initially flimsy feel second nature after half an hour. It basically nails the third person shooting genre like Ninja Gaiden and DMC nail third person hack and slash.

Multiplayer is so spot on it's not true. I played with 6 people and we played for about an hour and a half and not one person dropped out. Never any lag, nothing

I have played it but only for about an hour, on hardcore at work.
The ammount of times I have come off cover without pressing or doing anything with the controller is a joke.
I wasnt saying that you have to hold A to stay on just that the trigger is a better way of doing the cover system

          Bless you Uli.
The whingers thread, better called the niggles thread I reckon, was not inspired by you but my own little niggles with the game.
True fanboys bemoaned the piffling 8/10 Eurogamer gave GoW, but now the niggles are starting to appear in this thread more frequently perhaps that score wasn't too far off the mark.

I dont think it's perfect, but it's a ****load of fun and can get so hectic at times your stuck to that screen just sucked into the whole thing as if you're really there, well that's the way me and my lad see it since we've been playing split-screen co-op for the last week now.

Off to start that thread now Uli. Come and get your post in

Well, the GOW 'dumbz' fanboys had two good reasons to moan about that review.
            • Same reviewer gave Doom 3 9/10
            • He didn't touch the online aspect of the game at all.

You move him with the left Analogue stick (which isn't a face button as most of us see it) and control most of his actions with a signal button and that's been the case since Sonic onthe Saturn, and not changed much since the very 1st game (other than using the D-Pad)

One can argue that the gameplay maybe be broken, but the controls in SONIC are about as simple as its gets . And unlike GOA you aren't running and taking cover ever 5 mins, and not being able to jump over objects with a single press of the A button is a pain inthe ass . GOW is amazing but the controls are anything but , must say though they nailed the online part , thats bloody awesome

Well, it's been 3 days now and im still loving the multiplayer online. Not even Splinter Cell caught my attention for this long. It's a rare treat nowadays for me to activiely want to play against americans and curbstomp them.

finally played it seems very good

that reload gun skill idea i thought was pretty good

i am not to keen on the A button being used to do so many different things though hope it does not cause problems

The A button implementation works perfectly. When you're running you can't do anything else except steer, when you bind to a wall/surface you don't need to hold the button down.

You couldn't use left shoulder for run instead as it's used for precise aiming and if you switched that with A you wouldn't be able to aim with right stick as well as holding A.

Doubters - play the game for a few hours then come back.

Jesus are people not "getting" the controls ? Does anybody RTFM these days ?

                      A Button explanation :

If you press A whilst moving the stick you will roll in that direction unless you are close to a bindable object in that direction - in that instance you will bind.

If you hold A whilst moving the stick you will run.

When bound to an object you can unbind by pressing just A or moving the stick away from the object. If you move along the object you can roll from cover or if possible press towards the object and A to leap over it.

                      That's it.

PS Sonic has left analogue to move, a button to jump, a button to reset the camera, right stick to rotate the camera, a button to do the mad spin thing from stationary and depending on what game you're playing another button to change formation (or was that THREE buttons ???)

The jump button in Heroes for example becomes context sensitive dependent on character controlled and situation.

It's not the controls that are bust it's the whole frikkin design.

even sonic rush has more than one button.

im in love this is one top kick ass game

the first thing i done was play online and i got 5 chainsaw kills

                        Comment

Give it as rest mate, we all know what the A button does It's having it for 3 diff action thats the problem, and its far from perfect. It also means that while running I can't look to the thier side either , as my thumb in onthe A button. Not a major deal , but I would have much rather a simple click of the left stick for the run action , and the A button just used for jumping and just walking up to a object for cover (like in GRAW)

As for being doubters, sure we pay ?45 just to knock 7 seven bell out of it (give me a break) . And its not like anyone is saying it's a bad game, just the controls get inthe way of the action, not enough to spoil it too much, but are still annoying

As for SONIC look one could press down onthe D-pad to before a spin action or press up in Sonic CD for a speed boost, but you could still play and finish most all the Sonic games using just one button

this is the most impressive game I've played since I first saw Halo 5 years ago .....

the action is just too good in this game, the chainsaw is just out of this world !! and the looks are un-****ing-believable, the sound is awesome too, it really makes my subwoofer rumble !!

I love it that you really have the feeling you are fighting manno 2 manno with the locost horse maniacs

4v4 is great, best thing since Halo2, and this evening I'll try to co-op with a mate of mine...

best thing since Halo for sure...

for me the game took a couple of hours before I had the controls down tight - I still **** up sticking to cover at times (normally when under pressure in execution mode) but the majority of the time I am bouncing between one cover point to the next in total harmony with my surroundings.

Seriously, at times this game is as fluid and instinctive as a platformer - its gun ballet taken to its highest form, with the gamer blind firing over cover, then swat turning to the next available cover, then jumping over that and cover-sliding to the next cover up, blind firing from there, swat turning to the next one, swat turning again and then flanking the person you were in the gun battle with .. all with the simplicity of pressing one button and moving the stick in different directions.

Said this before but it needs reiterating - if Miyamoto was to make a shooter it would have the control system of Gears

I got into a co-operative session with sleepypixie yesterday.

Hardcore difficulty, got stuck STRAIGHT in. Very, very good stuff.

                                Top game.
