None as much as Planescape: Torment, Ish.

    But I'm mildly drunk and don't give a ****.

I wish my Star Wars thingy would arrive.

There are four Baldur's Gate games. There is Baldur's Gate, the expansion to it called Tales Of The Sword Coast (adds a couple of areas to your map, as well as adds some items, some quests, and ups the experience point cap so you can reach a higher level). Then there is Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn, and finally the expansion to that (but it's large enough to be an entire game on its own) Throne Of Bhaal, which ends the series. If you are thinking of getting these, I recommend that you buy Baldur's Gate 1 and Tales of the Sword Coast together, and installing them together. That way when you play through BG1 you'll have TotSC intigrated right into it, giving you all the added stuff from the get go. Then, buy BG2 and ToB together and install together. Your character from BG1 will import into them, which I highly recommend, as they will most likely be a bit more powerful than they would if you created one for BG2.

Another series besides Baldur's Gate is Icewind Dale. IwD is much more combat focused than the BG series, though still has plenty of story and voice acting, though not as much as the BG series has. In that series you have Icewind Dale and two expansions: Heart Of Winter and Trials Of The Lure Master. You can get HoW and IwD together for an incredibly cheap price, and you can download TotLM from the net for free. Just buy and install them all together for the full experience. Icewind Dale 2 is also fantastic (in fact I'm still playing through it), but I don't believe BioWare developed that one.

Anyway, I hope that was helpful. I cannot recommend the BG and the IwD series enough, but remember that they are different in many ways from KoToR (meaning, the PC games use a 3rd person isometric view, you have a party of six, it's fantasy, etc.). Still, if you can dig European fantasy settings, you cannot beat these games.

Also check out the Fallout games.

        1 and 2 specifically.

        Tactics is probably crap.

            Ok, back on topic

I'm about 9 hours into this now and absolutely loving it

There's a great story line and I've just become a Padawan. More please Bioware.

Well, now I have two Jedi in my party, and we kick serious ass together. My character is using a green double-ended lightsaber, Bastilla is using a blue saber in one hand and a red one in the other (the effect is really cool), and the other chick whose name escapes me uses a single yellow lightsaber. The screen is just filled with swirls of colored light.

I'm on Dantooine now (I was just being a donkey, not finding the Sith base. Kept walking right past it )

                Just got my lightsaber

Still haven't completed it yet, although I think I'm getting close.

Ah, btw, if you've yet to complete this game do not go to the GameFAQ message board for KOTR, as some moron there is putting up loads of threads with the three biggest spoilers of the game in their titles, it's trolling of the most henious kind and could possibly suck much of the enjoyment of KOTR right out of you.

Just completed this evening with a male on the light side. Total play time of 52 hours and I believe I've done most, if not all, side quests available. I can't remember the last time an RPG has kept my attention for so long. Usually I will start one, take a break from it and then go back to do some more every couple of weeks or something. Thoroughly enjoyed this title and am really hoping a sequel comes.

One hint for the end of the game:

There are countless Dark Jedi and Sith and of course the long inevitable battle against Malik to contend with!
If it wasn't for F-Zero turning up this week I think I'd start straight over and play through on the Dark Side.

Make sure you have a decent stepdown first though, yeah? We don't want it exploding on you
I got mine from Techno Devices (it's at the bottom of that page) which works out about ?30 after delivery. It never runs hot, is relatively compact for this kind of device, has a spiffy carry handle an on/off switch....I can't fault it

I played this for 7 hours straight on Saturday

Force Jump is incredible, the first time my guy did it I almost shat myself. He lept across the entire Grove on Dantoonie before chopping up them beast things! He is my hero.

I really want to take Carth and the guy with the gun on my travels, but the temptation to run about with 3 Jedi is far too much
                          We have matching Sabers

I have to say, my 'RPG apathy' is kicking-in a bit now. It's no reflection on the quality of the game (which is fantastic), and I love it when I play, but I get to the point where turning it on becomes a struggle. It's the knowledge of the weight of the task ahead of me, and its freeform nature.

I have to force myself through it to get the machine switched on for play, but once it's going, I enjoy myself. I get a bit daunted by the size sometimes, though. Does anyone else ever get this with RPGs, no matter how good they are?

don't worry, I know exactly how you feel. I've never finished an RPG in my life, but i'm determined this is gonna be my first. Trick is, don't think about finishing it, think about enjoying it. Even if it takes you 6 months, just take in the story and enjoy the atmosphere. I wont complete it in a hurry, but i will savour the journey.

Yeah, that's what I'll have to do. The reason for the problem was back in the day, when I never knew how long RPGs were. They varied a lot more in length than today - some were 20hrs, some were nearer 80 - dependant on the size of the cart and the game engine used. The length of the game was a surprise as much as anything.

Nowadays, everything is roughly 40hrs, and you always know beforehand. The idea of a 40hr game daunts me into immobility: I freeze at the thought of that length of time, regardless of the fact that I can easily put 40hrs on an arcade-style game in a month and not notice. Still, they are quick blasts where the player determines how much time and effort to put in. I guess long, narrative-based games are something I generally shouldn't bother with (and normally avoid like the plague)....but I'm willing to make an exception for this one
