Yep. Just as in D&D a thief and sorcerer can't use some of their abilities with armor on, neither can a Jedi use some of his unless he's in a cloak. The loss of protection sucks, but there are Force powers to compensate for it. 'Sides, Jedi just don't look right in armor. Need the cloak, bruv. Or just the undies, in Bastilla's case.

Being a fan of Star Wars isn't a prerequisite. The whole story is set thousands of years before the films. You could just think of it as another futuristic setting.

Put it this way, if you didn't like Bond would it put you off enjoying Goldeneye?

I was also put off by the shoddiness of the graphics.
Graphically it's pretty weak. But none of us are graphics whores here so it doesn't matter and as some people have said, once you get wrapped up in the amazing gameplay you don't even notice.

The sound is top notch though, especially through 5.1.

From what you guys are saying it appears to be good however, so maybe Ill persevere,
Good doesn't do it justice. How about possibly the treatest RPG ever made? It seriously is a contender for the title, everything in the gameplay is just so right. The combat system is fantastic once you progress, the story is compelling, side plots actually add to the experience rather than detract, characters are fully three dimensional personalities, NPCs are welcome rather than annoying, the script is excellent with some very sly in jokes and the interface is the best I have ever seen.

Here are some of the best bits so far imo (no spoilers):

        - The way the characters in your team will sometimes engage in their own conversatoins. Carth and Bastilla frequently talk between each other, but only if you choose to have them in your party.

        - The way in which you realise after a big battle that there were actually loads of different ways to defeat the enemy. The droid in the Sith base on Taris is a very good example of this.

        - The levelling up of characters. Customisation is the key, oh yeah .

        - The way in which the game is happy to let you be as much of a goody two shoes or a complete bastard as you would like.

        - The complex narratives of racial and sexual tension, betrayal, trust, politics and class that run through both the script and the setting. This is a very mature game (in that it treats the player as an adult, not that it features lots of gore).

with other games like Project Zero and FZero taking up my time I doubt Ill have enough room for this one
Can you believe I've just cancelled my order for F-Zero GX because I can't see myself getting round to playing it? I'll wait for the US version instead. As a massive Nintendo and F Zero X fan, it would take an amazing game for me to do that, but KOTOR is just that.

I believe this is a landmark title. A game that underlines what many of us have known for ages, that Bioware can write an RPG that equals (nay even betters) the output for the likes of Square and Enix. It also shakes the genre by the throat and thrusts much needed vigor into it. No console RPG will ever grab my attention again unless it can step up to the mark laid down by this game.

The best RPG since FFVII (or even ever)? Possibly.

The best Star Wars title since X-Wing (or even ever?) Most Likely.

The best "Star Wars" product since Empire Strikes Back (or even ever)? Most definately.

The best XBox game since Halo (or even ever)? Definately.

Game of the Year, so far? Without questoin.

Just completed it playing as a light-side Jedi, and I was seriously righteous ( even had a giant beam of light behind my character portrait ) so it will be quite refreshing now to go through the game being a total arse to everyone I encounter.

I'd def agree with the GOTY nomination, it kept me gripped from start to finish, and will hopefully gain Bioware a lot more of the recognition that they deserve. The ingenious mix of real-time/turn-based, and the fluid nature of the battles rather than the bland 'run in-hit-run back-wait' of many Final Fantasy titles is the right way forward for console RPGS IMO, I found myself enjoying combat rather than seeing it as a chore to suffer through in order to expose more storyline.

I thought the fights were really well 'choreographed'. Despite it not being an action game they were still really exciting and had a real sense of immediacy.

I got mine from Techno Devices (it's at the bottom of that page) which works out about ?30 after delivery. It never runs hot, is relatively compact for this kind of device, has a spiffy carry handle an on/off switch....I can't fault it
I you. Been looking for one of those....
                  Thanks

Bioware have announced the Live content. Basically new weapons and armour that you can download and pick up in special shops. Sounds a bit wank to me, but at least it keeps Microsoft's Live-enabled game quota up for those all important press releases.

                        Comment

Yeah, the Live content was a bit anti-climactic, good job the game is good enough to stand without it.

Okay, I need some help. Is there any way to upgrade your swoop bike on Tatooine? I've made it to the second tier, but I just can't seem to make it past it to the third (the closest I've come was .01 second, and I almost threw my controller through the wall when I saw that). The Ithorian in the driod shop said he sells parts for swoops, but I don't see any in his list. Anyone got somethin' for me? That's all I need to finish before I can leave that giant litter box and move on...

Just stormed the Sith base on the water world (forget the name) and kicked some dark Jedi arse
This game is taking up so much of my time, at the expense of the PotC review. It's been rare in the last couple of years that I've played a game so extensively, not since FF7, and once again I'm knackered for work this morning. Worth it though

Earning a few quid with Pasaak too - once you get a better set of cards it removes some of the luck factor. Reckon you're at a disadvantage always going first though - should be random.

                              Regards

You can't upgrade your swoop bike at all, the game hints at it but there are no upgrades for it, or non that I have been able to find anyway.

The only advice I can give you for tier 3 is to try to hit every bnoost pad and change gear as soon as you can do so. It took me a fair few tries before I managed to beat it, but it is certainley worthwhile.
