I've made a little guide to the Gametypes and an explanation of the proximety chat for people who are new to Halo. If there is anything you are unsure about in the beta just let me know and I'll type up an explanation and add it in. Voice Chat:
When you are talking normally you are talking in proximity chat, only people who are near to you can hear you (including the other team)
A quick tap on the d pad will allow you to chat to everyone on the team (or everyone in the game it is an all versus all type).
You don’t need to hold it , just tap the button and you’ll hear a futuristic noise in your headset just talk as normal and when you have finished talking the game automatically recognises the silence that follows close the comm. Channel.
Assault
This comes in 2 varieties, multi bomb and single bomb.
Single Bomb : Attacking
The attacking team has a bomb and has to pick it up and carry it to the designated bomb spot ,which is displayed as a waypoint marker on the HUD for the bomb carrier. It is always in the same place. When carrying the bomb you can melee attack people with the B button and you can drop the bomb with the R trigger. If you drop the bomb either voluntarily or from being killed you have a short period before it times out and returns to your base.
When the bomb carrier reaches the bomb spot he must stand on the bomb spot and an on screen bar will fill up , when it reaches the top the bomb is then armed. Once armed the attacking team must defend the bomb for 15 seconds until it has detonated.
Single Bomb: Defense
You must defend the base from the attacking team and stop them from arming the bomb, if they manage to arm the bomb you have a 15 second period before it detonates where you can disarm the bomb and return it to their base.
In single bomb games you take it in turns to attack/defend in each round, games usually last 4 rounds so can easily end in a draw.
The multibomb variation sees both teams with a bomb both attacking and defending at the same time and the first team to reach 3 detonations wins.
Capture the flag
The opposite of Assault again available in 2 flavours Single Flag and Multiflag.
You have to get into the enemy base and steal their flag then carry it back to your base.
VIP
1 player on each team is randomly given the title of VIP, which gives them a regenerating over shield thus making them a lot harder to kill.
Score points by killing the other teams VIP, which shows up on your HUD as a little star/spot thing.
Oddball
A skull item appears on the map , you have to pick it up and hold onto it for as long as possible, you rack up points the longer you have it. Whilst carrying the oddball you are unable to use weapons although you can melee attack with B for a one shot kill.
The team/player that reaches the points limit first wins.
King of the hill
Current variations Crazy king ( hill moves after 1 minute)
An area on the map becomes designated ‘the hill’ it is easily noticeable by the large rotating wall of light that will surround it. Score points by staying within the boundaries without the other team inside. The Colour of the wall changes to indicate who is controlling the hill. The walls become their neutral grey colour when noone is inside it or when the hill is contested (both teams inside).
First team to reach the points limit wins.
*Current variations Crazy king ( hill moves after 1 minute)
Territories
5 points across the map become territories, you must get to them and stand near them to capture the territories, once captured they can be left unattended, but beware as they can quite easily be recaptured by the opposing team.
Score point when you hold a territory, the more territories you hold the more points you get.
A variation of this is appearing a lot in the play lists at the moment, differing in that once a territory is captured it is locked to your team (designated with a padlock on your HUD) the team who captures the majority of the territories on the map wins the round.
