    DiRT

Only had 30 minutes or so on it so far.... so here's some brief impressions.

1st event is insane - very very hard, but very pretty. It's driving round a course in a big jeep/buggy thing, lots of other vehicles on the screen too. The force feedeback is much stronger than in Forza (and you can turn it up, just like the demo). It feels more like Motorsport than Colin!

2nd event is more what I was expecting, some proper rallying against the clock. Bloody fast! It feels like you're playing Wipeout!

The difficulty on default (clubman I think) was Ok on the first event and rock hard on the second.... either very strange or I'm very crap.

Graphics are great, I didn't notice framerate issues in game, but it does tear like a bitch! Not quite as bad as MotoGP, but not far off.

So far (other than the tearing) so good.

Do like it in the replays when you can press a button and it goes all "slo-mo".

Have only played it a bit to me it looks fine very slight tearing SOMETIMES to be honest was having a good time driving to be put off .

Career you work your way up a tiered system

Rally championship is classic rally mode set Euro, international and global

Rally world play all the cars and tracks you have unlocked.

I dont mind the american voice ,hes not to bad.Lets face it Colins voice was a bit monotone to say the least.

Won the rally raid on my 3rd go great physics on the cars bouncing about and even the AI taking each other out.

Done a rally event in the UK in a Clio fine till you go into the forest talk about tight as you tear through the trees.

I like it and FORZA 2 so I am a happy bunny but to choose one is a tough call.

I am using a pad as the wife would go nuts if a bolted a wheel to the table.

Does it still have the hugely annoying American voiceover in? I was hoping Codemasters would see sense and take it out of the European version.

Official forums has a load of wheel setups as their customisable in the options. Just got mine so I will see how it plays over the demo.

If you get it and looking to register for the free cars forget it as the register section isnt up yet heh.

Regarding the structure - can you do a full proper rally? I want to run the full world championship, with repairs at the end of each stage costing time and the potential of crashing out of an entire rally with a broken car...Please tell me that's still possible!

Seems to be better than the demo... handles fine for me with the default settings.

And just to repeat - This a very very fast game!

Is this much more different to Forza 2, as i bought it yesterday and cant seem to get into it - if i liked previous colin mcraes, is this more of the same, but better graphics?

Is it more burnout than gran turismo? (if you get what i mean)

Totally different to Forza2 hence they can both exist happily alongside each other ! Much more arcadey - not quite burnout vs GT but part away along those lines

I think i will prefer DIRT to forza then.

Its more arcade than sim right?

thats what im looking for, i love the burnouts and ridge racers, but cant stand the gran turismo's and Forza's.

Be interesting to see how fast it feels after playing Forza 2, especially as this is half the FPS to Forza's 60 FPS. I might cave in and give it a try after I've done with Forza.

                              My Official Microsoft Wheel Settings
                              -----------------------------------------

Forcefeedback effects (from left to right far left is 1 far right ie most is 10) 5 is defaults...
                              Strength 8/10
                              Weight 4/10
                              Effects 8/10

                              Settings for wheel...

Deadzone 4 to 5% (I use 4% with more linerity)
                              Saturation 100% for wheel
Linerity 0.40 (0.50 ie +0.50far right is the most for wheels you want it more to the right as you use the full range of the wheel then and it becomes less twitchy ie -0.50 would mean least movement so massive oversteering on wheels).
Accel Pedal zone 0% (ie deadzone of your pedal range)
                              Saturation accel 100%
Brake Deadzone 10% (to stop quick wheelocking)
                              Braking Saturation 100%
