Meh, not worth it in that case.

i don't see any tearing via a vga cable, i do notice the engine drawing in detail on the horizon though.
been switching back and forth between this and forza all day (which isn't easy).
even on pro-am level this seems to keep grabbing hold of my car and moving it back onto the track (somehting you just don't get in forza).
i love the presentation, graphics & sound are great, just not sure i love the feel of this yet, something seems wrong to me.

I've not noticed any tearing via VGA either, remember couple of points
+ you can slam the car into reverse and get going quicker than any other racing game I've ever seen
- when pressing Y to look back there is about a half a second pause before the view changes, really noticeable and annoying
Overall a very arcade but fun game.
Got the unlock code to work, not worth the effort, just unlock the cars as you play through the game.
Picking up new router tomorrow so can finally get online with this and Forza

I felt that the demo of this was really twitchy with the wheel as i couldn't even get half a mile without going off the road.
Bought the final game on friday and have put around 3hrs into it so far, and i'm in love again. I get the same joy from it as when i played the first PS1 Colin for the first time all those years ago.
Hate the off roading trucks, they just bash into memore of a loner racer me i guess LMAO
BTW did the demo have the advanced wheel options? I've deleted the demo so can't check.

But most people seems to be raving about this game...maybe I'm missing something.Last edited by smokedog; 16-06-2007, 12:56.

Its good but that good , its not a patch on CM 3 or 4 imo . I get the Sense that the game isn’t quite finished The cars and some of courses give me that SEGA Rally II feel , some seem more optimised than others and some cars appear to almost float on track, and the dirt/smoke/mud trail effects are a massive step backwards from Parts IV and V .
That said the game is still great and looks amazing in places and there’s a wealth of depth here and tons of game play to get into and the loading and presentation screens is the best I’ve seen (love the way you can move them around ) . Also the force feedback from the wheel is the best ever , its better than a work out down the gym, and some of the coruse desgin is brilliant .
But I feel the game needed a bit more development time , and don’t like how the semi auto form the previous games was also taken out

Hmm. I'm undecided.
+ Lots of variety
+ Great game modes
+ Pretty enough, if a little over bloomy/soft
- CORR races feel like you have marshmallow tyres. Not a patch on Motorstorm
- Twitchy handling makes me nervous
- Rally sections seem less refined than CMR 3,4,5
- Tearing and frame rate drops in certain events. Lots of loading too
- American voices

If you are going to use the steering wheel I recommend using the settings posted earlier in this thread.
I understand what you mean about the steering controls compared to Forza, I definately agree. It was frustrating playing this with awkward steering controls but after an hour or so its majorly addictive and everything else that's terrible about the game ( especially the yank co-driver ) become bearable.

Bit brief earlier.
Fired this up yesterday and ended up blasting through 2 tiers and a few online races - fantastic stuff.
It's very arcadey - The handling seems different from the demo I dunno if that's just me or wheel/pad default settings being tweaked from the demo - But I like what they've done
The online works well - it's just like playing offline but with dynamic time updates for the other drivers - I thought it'd only update when you hit a checkpoint but it seems more frequent than that - Very exciting when you're going hell for leather and catching up, depressing when you clip a tree and lose it then notice your position has gone from 3rd to double figures
Well chuffed

I've spent quite some time playing the game yesterday and today.
Good points?
-It looks really nice graphically.
-There seems to be lots there to do and unlock.
-It has a very simple handling model which allows you to throw cars around without worrying too much about the subtleties.
-You can choose to be a Welsh driver!!! A small thing maybe, but CM games have let you choose your nationality before like this rather than just being British!
-The traditional Rally sections are the best parts of the game!!
-Quite a few things to alter in the cars mechanics sections.
Bad points?
-What the hell is it with this generations developers and bloom??? Stop it!!! It's not big and it's not clever!!
-The music, design and voice overs make it seem like it should be called Electronic Arts' Dirt.
-Exactly the same simple handling model which allows you to throw cars around without worrying too much about subtleties. Why can't I turn off all the driving assists in this game?
-As Super Monkey Balls said...it pales in comparison to the older games which felt so much better than pretty much everything else around at the time.
-The multi car sections just seem completely pointless to me. The same things have been done in other games many times and been done so much better than in this. (Rallysport Challenge, Motorstorm etc)
-Weather?? I've played a few hours now but not yet seen any rain, fog or snow in the game? Is there any included? Maybe I just have to play more of it to find it?
EDIT:
-Where the hell does Colin McRae get his super brakes from? You seem to be able to go from 80 to 0 almost instantly...even in mud!!
I don't want to sound too negative about the game as it is very enjoyable but I really was hoping for a lot more from such a good franchise.
It is quite good fun and will keep me entertained until something a little more..."Rally" come along!
Rushy, I'm sure you've been playing it so let's see a full blown rally game from you lot that doesn't try so hard to cater for Americans who may no interest in the sport!!!
I'd recommend it highly for anybody who enjoys arcade style racing games though!
