Just got off it now and was thinking that this must be the best golf game ever!!!

That accolade went to Atlantis software back in '88 for their Pro Golf game.



My dad still raves on about it today. He says only Arnold Palmer's Golf on Megadrive and PGA Tour Golf come close.

Was defo on the radar. I was quoting my Dad's faves above. For me personally, the original PGA Tour Golf was the best retro golf.

Did anyone else have a Dad who would hog their Megadrive or whatnot to play golf games?

Anyone have any good tips on where to use a particular spin? Its my first EG game since the original on the psx.

There's no right answer for this really, I apply spin pretty much all the time but always depending on the situation. If you need to reduce the impact of the wind (And if you're likely to land on a downslope and want to get maximum distance) then use topspin, if you need the help of the wind (Or if you're shooting to a target that's lower than you and you need to stop the ball dead or even move it backwards) then use the backspin.

Sidespin I usually use to get around obstacles/combat the wind.

Use super/non-super depending on how much you need.

I haven't actually bought this yet (Going to finish Viking/R6V first), I'm working off of the PSP version, but the fundamentals are the same.

Hmm this might be my favourite Ps3 game so far. Its long ago I played a game that is this much fun...

I managed to get 1 Eagle so far, and missed a hole in one by 1 inch (bounced back from the flag).

I also did some super move once, basically the ball gets some backspin effect on the green and it leaves a trail of flames. Anyone knows how I did this (I think it had to do with a perfect shot while using power)

Super Spin moves are done by holding the opposite direction to the spin you want to apply when you set the power, then applying the right direction as you set impact (Perfect needed). So, for Super Backspin you hold up when setting the power and then back when setting the impact.*

* - again this assumes the mechanic is the same as the PSP version.

I can understand why people have issues with no rumble in some games... but a golf game?

i played the jap game a lot but find my game really goes to pot with the stress of playing up to 50 unseen opponents, I even like the waiting bit inbetween holes wher eyou can chat a little.

brilliant game this, and I've done all the 1 player stuff before.

I have some questions about this which hopefully somebody will be able to answer here.

1. After teeing off there is often a small flag on the fairway in the general area that you land in. Is this your distance record for that hole?
2. I just tried using one of the sets of clubs which has the note of Auto in the Impact bar which seems to mean that you always hit the ball even if you change your mind after starting the down swing. Is there any way to abandon the shot after the down swing has started?
3. With the card things that you get when winning tournaments, if I repeat the same tournaments and win do I get a choice of cards again? Are the cards set or are they random in each tournament?

Completely unrelated but it gives you an indication of just how bad I seem to be at this bloody game!!

no, i tried doing the first one again earlier, half expecting to choose again and unlock something else, but nothing happened.

i'm absolutely loving this though.
unlocked the first amateur woman, and played the third course today, which seems much harder than the first two. god know what the others are like!

i've been really going for super backswings all the time too. and managed to hit the pin once, but i didnt get any cool homing action, which was a shame.

mostly been playing it online with rllmuk peoples, with everybody on the course at the same time which is excellent. we need to set up a game here too sometime.

Hi John,

1. yep, the small flags indicate the longest drive you've done on that hole.

2. pressing 'O' while swinging cancels if your going up but I don't think it works once your swinging down.

3. I think if you complete a challenge you don't get another choice of cards, and apparently there random and you don't get the same ones. I've the JPN version and it always seemed i was getting the same clubs, but I think they were upgraded versions of them.
