If you loved Halo you'll love this single player too once it gets going. for me the annoying things in the first ones are still annoying

@ Swallow - you never know, you may like, I mean plenty of people who've played it in this thread seem very impressed by it and it's certainly receiving amazing reviews but I just can't see where they're coming from or what angle they're looking at it from. I wasn't even that caught up in the hype either (for a change) so it's not like I was expecting the greatest videogame of all time. But I will stress, again, I've only just touched upon the second level so there is time for the gameplay at least to improve and impress.

I never thought much to the first two games to be honest, thought they were pretty neat co-op experiences and that was about it. Only played them in the last year, like, so I was never in on the buzz I suppose.

For Charlie, Sounds like you didnt even want to like it from the beginning as alot of the stuff you say is just pure crap mate. I'm all for everyone having their own opinion but not when they're delusional.

For instance, how can you honeslty say the lighting is bad with flat, matted textures. Thats one of the best things about the game, the lighting is absolutely stunning and you can see first hand just how good it is when you go into Theatre mode and zoom around in that for a bit, absolutely gorgeous and the textures on everything look great, if anything is holding it back its the poly count like you say but textures and lighting are spot on. So saying it scarcely looks HD just doesnt even make sense to me. Are you watching it on an SDTV or something!?

I cant actually be bothered going on to pick out what else I completely disagree with in the rest of your post because as I said previously, I dont think you wanted to like this game from the start as you seem to be picking on everything and anything possible so I dont imagine you'll ever be convinced.

Unlucky for you though, you missing one of the most exciting games this generation so far.

I've only played MP as I'm saving the campain for coop, but one of our coop team couldn't wait to play and started SP. His feedback was that it gets MUCH better later, and should not be played on "normal"

Well goodness me if this isn't really rather good.

I've made no secret of my dislike of Halo 1 and 2 and I will never hide my dislike, but this is really really good! I don't know why I feel differently, but I do.

My only reservation so far is the length, I'm already on the fourth level after just under 2 hours...but by god I wanted more, I forced myself to stop so I could make it last a bit.

Right from the first level this game hooks you. I also cannot see why people would complain about the graphics, they look very very nice on my LCD (samsung) and are a big improvement over Halo 2, but obviously it should be.

The production values are astounding, the music is possibly the best I've heard in a game, even down the ambient music in the menus, the piano etc, very nice. (When the piano starts it sounds dead like "9 Crimes" by Damien Rice!!!).

The game oozes love at you, the love the developers have clearly put into the product.

That said, there's no doubt I'll be **** at this online, so expect to hear me say the opposite about online

I think when a game is as hyped and anticipated as this one, you have to accept those kind of views because people were/are expecting perfection from this game...

I came home early to play this today but don't know why I bothered. I've just gotten on to the second stage of the single player campaign and have yet to look at multiplayer, so these are very early impressions, but the game's dreadful.

Graphically it's an awful mess thanks to the low polygon count of the models, poor framerate, crap animation, drab colours, bad lighting and flat, matted textures, on top of that it's so jaggy and scruffy it scarcely looks HD. The sound is also incredibly disappointing thanks to terrible voice acting. I've yet to hear anyone with any sense of urgency or feeling in their voice so no-one sounds like their actually there on the battlefield and that saps the game of atmosphere. Cut scenes are also awful and very Xbox 1, not that they're important.

Admittedly I'm a fussy player and not easily impressed but I can usually find something positive to say about a game, but I can't think of anything complimentary to say about this (well, the opening theme sounds nice I suppose) and cannot understand why reviewers are going crazy for it. It's not Halo 2.5 or Halo 2 HD, it's Halo 2.1 as far as I'm concerned. Just dreadful.

A little harsh, but i agree with some of the points (single play)

Graphically it's an awful mess – new glasses/new tv required ? Looks lush on my sammy 1080p screen via VGA; agree about some poor textures/lighting etc

Remember the hype surrounding this game is huge, there is no way it could possibly live up to it. Certainly not dreadful, but I preferred the first myself (probably because of the impact on FPS that it had)

Thanks for the answers on the 5.1 query - the thing was that the radio chatter on the early stages was really loud through the centre speaker but the assault rifle was dead quiet, so I wasn't sure what to do.

From my brief go yesterday, I learned that I was far too crap for playing on Heroic, but I'm right in thinking that if I just persevere on Heroic and join in plenty of multiplayer games, I'll stop being crap at some point...right?

I'm playing in 720P so, sure, I expect it looks much nicer in 1080P . I purposely didn't mention the gameplay because, considering how little of the game I've seen, I didn't feel in a position to do so but I do hold hope it will improve and stimulate - unlike the graphics and sound which I don't expect to improve much. Regarding the hype, I genuinely wasn't caught up in it and, after seeing Halo 3 Beta, really wasn't expecting to be blown away. But anyway, I really don't want to add to or repeat my criticisms. I think most people love the game and want to read about people enjoying it, and I respect that.

Just played some online

Impressions are mixed, I was playing in the beginners area because I'm the very definition of one of those, however there was some cock who was CLEARLY not a beginner, 15 kills ahead of everyone else, probably just getting cheap kills/exp. Shame really as it was a very fun 4 player free for all.

Afterwards played some NTSC matches with Silvergun, jim, chimp and Hazuki....Shotty Snipers, and let me tell you, that's where it's at. Shotty Snipers was superb and my favourite so far, so much so that my first two kills with the sniper are committed to tape and saved
