Can't really say I'm the Halo 3 love so far. Played the campaign and got bored after half an hour, online is not bad but having played COD4 after I much prefer that.. The most impressive thing for me is the theatre mode. I can see why people like it but I don't think its for me. Roll on Skate instead!!

I thought it was amazing for a home console game. Especially the outdoors sections.

i've played thru the first couple on the original box so didn't come to this cold
so far i'm just thinking so what, i'm not out the jungle at the start yet being led by the nose down corridors and shooting what sound very wimpy weapons with stodgy feeling controls.
nothing feels exciting or visceral about this first level, i'm just left feeling i've played lots of better games so far this year, of course will stick with it but so far just thinking so what.

There's plenty of amazing design work in the world of video gaming, such as in the Metal Gear, Panzer Dragoon, Shadow of the Colossus, Final Fantasy, Lost Odyssey, and lots more. Not Halo though, at least not to my eyes.

I don't like this thread - everybody with bad things to say about this game is wrong and that's the bottom line. The thing I love most is that given the magnitude & scope of what Bungie have achieved people are happy to comment based on a couple of hours play or having completed campaign and that's it.Last edited by Yoshimax; 26-09-2007, 07:18.

Graphically it's a bit of a train wreck though. Scruffy non-anti-aliased rendering, a spluttering frame rate, muddy uninspiring textures, dreadful art direction, awful character modeling and animation, and lighting which is best described as mixed. (some really nice lighting in the jungle, but level 2's uniformly super bright and flat interior lighting looks abysmal)
I know the previous Halos didn't look that great either, but standards were lower back then and you just can't get away with such shoddy work now. Not post Gears, not post Bioshock. It's just not acceptable, especially for such a massive budget project.
At least the sound is fantastic though, with Marty's score as sublime as ever, and I love the goofy outbursts from the alien grunts.
Fun game though, really fun, and I think Halo still has the best battle set pieces of any FPS. No other game manages to pin you down for long periods under intense fire and have you love every minute of it. Awesome stuff.
I'm not sure it's worth the crazy high scoring reviews yet, but I haven't touched the multi player at all so far. I did have a play with the movie mode though, and it's a nice little toy. Screenshots are a bit of a pain to upload though? Took me a while to get a shot onto bungie.net, which is a problem I didn't have with Forza 2's forza.net screenshots.
Anyway, now I've been playing it some more I've found a few positive things to say. The graphics don't look quite so bad in the outside sections as the textures are further away, the music's pretty decent and the vehicles are as much fun to use as ever.

So Haze is a FPS Comedy?
Hmm, I've watched Boris play a lot of games and I always liked Halo a lot because I thought that the design of the game was one of it's strongest features. You really get a sense of how much thought they've put into the world, everything has this nice feeling of being solid and believable and immerses you in it, and I also thought all the aliens (apart from the flood, but that could just be coz I think they are gross) were pretty cool and original looking.
Oh oh! I forgot the most important part of my post, the design of the Halo games just screams FUN!Last edited by lei; 26-09-2007, 08:02.

I always felt that Halo had it's military design placed firmly in the side of function opposed to just looking cool. The actual UNSC things look deliberately chunky and forged from metal. The marines themselves have proved themselves to be believable designs, the US army have already shown prototypes for armour that doesn't look a million miles off it, even GRAW's designs back that up.
