You only really need the plasma and the frag, is there anything different between the plasma and the other spikey one, I forget its name! I mainly use plasma and make a big emphasis on stickying people and use frags for throwing round corners which I'm quite good at too. But rarely use the others, unless Im need to.

It is the low point of the game but that one level is still better than most fps games. The Darkness for instance, Cortana is better than all of that game, and Doom 3/Quake 4.
For me the reason I don't like it is that for one, the only enemies are the flood and I don't enjoy fighting them much, and for two, the environment is very bland and so repetetive to the point you aren't sure at times if you've gone in a big circle or are in fact on the right spot! It's completely different from the rest of the game for me, because the rest of the game is simply sublime.Last edited by Jebus; 30-09-2007, 17:54.

The Library wasn't so much of a problem for me, it was bad at the time but I can't remember it being anything in comparison to this!
I just can't think of one thing to recommend about this level. Here is a video of one run through I had on that level which about sums it all up for me!
According to Boris I don't have far to go on it so I'm determined to just grit my teeth and get it done tonight so I can get onto the final level which most people seem to recommend.
Then I can at least retry the game at a higher skill level, not being a big Halo fan previously I'm only doing it on the Normal level.
I'll spend some time getting the skulls and stuff too...

Sorry for asking this if it's been covered, but I can't think of what to search this thread for to get what I want without massive spoilers!
I've resigned myself to the fact that I'm getting this, but I've not played Halo 1 or 2. What would be the best way to catch up on the story? Or does 3 do a pretty good job of 'previously on Halo' or whatever?

The Halo games have never really been that much about the story for me though, so personaly i wouldnt worry too much, unless you really feel like you need to understand it as well as you could.

The pacing and the focus of the campaign elevates the disappointment somewhat, but it's still there. The removal of the cut and paste level design and the fixation on properly developed set-piece encounters though annihlates Halo 1/2, and the ending is far more gratifying than what for me is the best single-player game of the year so far - BioShock.
I felt empty at the end BioShock, whereas in Halo 3 you do feel as though things wrap up in a satisfying fashion and for that Bungie deserve credit. So many games completely fail to deliver in their conclusion that it's almost a given these days to expect to come away with a 'meh'.

Almost missed this.

Also, did you notice that Cortana's ramblings before you find her are either the same as or very similar to some of Dr. Halsey's lines in the novels? Sorry if it has already been mentioned.
Yeah, I think it was just a subtle nod to the books rather than anything significant. It could be a hint that they're going to introduce Halsey to the Halo universe in a future game though, because a lot of the things Cortana references (in the HUD -she refers to her 'mother' at one point, and at the beginning) are things Halsey says.
One thing I was disappointed with was this building up of Cortana being rampant, and then for all build up to be lost as soon as you she gets over her instability. I thought a better end battle than Guilty Spark going nuts would have been Cortana going rampant and having to fight Gravemind to either free or destroy her. The deaths of Keyes and Johnson were a bit overdone in terms of significance because they're really secondary characters. Cortana, The Chief and arguably the Arbiter, aren't.

I'm getting into this in a way I never did with Halo1. I'm enjoying the challenge of it. Totally stuck again - I think the checkpoints are out to shaft me as the game always seems to save at a point where I have no hope of surviving, dooming me to play it over and over again.
RIght now, I'm at the
big bridge blockade after the warthog escape from the base. I'm in a vehicle all alone. Behind me is a Wraith firing off its big blue balls. In front of me, the blockade leading to a swarm of brute guys.
I can't see how I'm anything other than doomed here.

Finished the game on legendary tonight. I gotta say... truly amazing. I was amazed all the way through the game. The cut scenes. The visuals (yeah so the graphics arent all they could have been but they were still very tasty and the environments were stunning!). The audio! amazing
The cortanna level was definatley the most tedious level. At one point
I had spent about 45 minutes trying to get through this one corridoor, then decided to explore a little more, finding a couple of the invisibility equipment!
Not too hard after that!
Over all this is the best of the Halo trilogy. The ending was a bit of a dissapointment. Didn't like
having to fight 343 Guilty Spark,
that was a bit naff. The way the game ends all together was pretty good too. Although it does leave me wondering
what the bloody hell was the crack with that big blue/white flash off that planet the chief and cortanna were drifting past!?!?was that his dying? was it totally irrelevant? meh
Anyway... great game!
